Have there been any user group activities in the Las Vegas area? I would be very interested to reach out to CATIA users in this region. Please let me know if there are any CATIA users out here.

Thank you,

Hi Coleen

With COE's new website, we can enable you or other member or your RUG to easily set up a webpage here.  You can announce meetings, agendas, whatever.  If you're interested, please contact COE HQ, coe@coe.org.

Rich,

Thanks.  I am very happy with the progress made to the web site and especially the Member Directory.  I ran it though it's paces today and we need to get the word out for all memebrs who want to make use of this to update their user profile to add data about their company.  I will post to the General Discussion area later this week.  Thanks for the progress.

Colleen - Before we announce to the general membership, we want to review the feedback given by you and our pilot group, the volunteers.  We'll let you know.

I guess there is no RUG  in So Cal

How do you start one?

What are you supposed to do in a RUG, other that get togeather and share ideas, problems and solutions?

Dave, I am going to send you a RUG startup kit that was created by COE. Take a few moments to read through it as there is valuable information for creating a RUG. A great new feature of the COE website is for RUG leaders to have the ability to make edits to their RUG page housed within the COE site. I would be happy to set aside some time to walk you through this process or to discuss the kit that I will send. Thanks Dave,

Dave -

Do you know who your IBM rep is?

Do you know the colleges in your region that provide CATIA related training?

A common thread among successful RUGs is the support added by these resources.

Dave -

Do you know who your IBM rep is?

Yes, Mark Teneyck. I also have a good Delmia rep

Do you know the colleges in your region that provide CATIA related training?

Yes, I deal with INCAT, and TGS. ( My instructior for the Catia NC Manufacturing i attended now works for Rand)

A common thread among successful RUGs is the support added by these resources.

Excellent, Dave.  Creating and sustaining a RUG is a significant effort, particularly for volunteers.  Generally, schools like to offer meeting and lab facilities, companies like INCAT and TGS and Rand are generous in sharing their experts, and IBM is very helpful in finding companies that would benefit from RUG activity.  Get them aboard, and you're off to a great start.

Hey glad to hear some of you are networking. Still wishing for a Catia Users Group in Las Vegas. Any ideas? Are there any LV Catia users out there? Anyone... Anyone...

Thanks,

am planning a social get-together to discuss forming a Regional Users Group for southern California.

My Cenit Businesses  partner has agreed to sponsor the event.

This social get-together can be one of two things. Please state your preference. one or two.

1. A Lunch or dinner at some restaurant.

2. a Sunday barbeque and  pool party at my Santa Clarita valley home, (Castaic 91384)

I personally like the  Pool party idea, because I would have family members invited, and the event would be relaxed, last longer, probably from 2PM until the fireworks shoot off at Magic mountain.

I personally am in manufacturing, and a dozen MFG people I have contacted, have already expressed interest in this get-together

For those of you MFG people, I want you to know that I am posting in a few COE  forums to try to lure a few from the Part Design, VB, and programming people also. I think it would be great to discuss the issues created by Part Design people, and how things effect manufacturing. And Visa Versa.

For example,  I have a friend that designs in the Northrop group, that is always interested in machineability of some of the cosmic, monolithic design, with 18 inch deep pockets, and .125 wall radii.

This will be open to COE and non COE Catia users, anyone is invited.

Since Castaic may be geographically undesirable  to some, I am open to anyone else that wishes to host the get-together in the south bay, or northern Orange county. But I got a big place, and can easily host 100 people if that many show up.

I am thinking August, to give people time to plan and respond.

I hope to get 25-50 Catusers.

Hope to hear from you.

Dave

Oh I forgot to mention. I will have a working temporary seat of Catia on my Laptop, and I will do a Demo of the Delmia Machine Simulation, for anyone interested.

I might show off a few other things, also.

Anyone that want's to bring a file, for a show and tell, is welcome to contact me.

Dave,

I'm in too, except I'm on the "right" coast!

Dave, can you hold a meeting next January when it is about 5° here in New York?

For those of you who arent involved in Manufacturing I'd like to add that Dave has done a great job in stirring up activity in the Manufacturing forums and gettting participation from DS.

He doesnt want to limit the West Coast RUG to only manufacturing types though. I think it would be really healthy to get some design and analysis people to participate also. Cross pollination is always a good thing. Contact Dave to see what he has in mind.

Dave says

Sure, but the kickoff RUG meeting will be end of August.

Hopefully, January will be the 2nd or 3rd meeting.

I will consult the Farmers almanac, and try to make sure it is 12 hours before a blizzard, so you  won't be able to fly back, and will be stuck in LA Ha Ha Ha

Dave says

That is correct. Our region for out PAC-MEN Manufacturing group, is a tiny planet ..... called Earth.

plenty or users outside the good old USA

I definatly want designers, knowledge, management slurped into our group.

There are things that these folk can do to expedite and simplify design incorporating changes for easier MFG and that is high on my list of priorities.

There are things that these folk can teach us, about making smarter models, better nesting vacuum fixtures etc.

We NC programmers, can advise on machinability

I also plan to get ideas from some of our PAC-MEN Manufacturing group superstars, from INCAT, and CENIT, and invite anyone from TGS, and RAND to Jump in

There is an unbelievable amount of manufacturing in the LA / San Diego Palmdale areas, and the time has come to form a RUG here

Dave,

I am interested in participating in this. As you can see from my signature my background is CATIA Mechanical Design and Automation, representing just one of TechniGraphic Inc's technical resources on the west coast. I would like to attend and will discuss this internally as well. The end of august is (personally) a difficult time for me to attend as my brother is getting married on the 24th and my cousin is flying into town to get married on the 30th (and I'm in both weddings, so...). I'll have a lot of family in those two weekends, but I'll do my best to attend such an event. If we are shooting for one of those two weekends, I'd vote the 31st or 1st (labor day), as theoretically I'd be less in demand once the weddings are over. That IS labor day weekend, though.

As for my 2 pence, I'd vote #2, particularly if you're willing and have the space to do so. Indeed a pool party is a better medium for meeting and conversation. I'll discuss this internally and get back to you with more information. Thanks.
