Hi,

I am new to this forum and just started learning Catia. Is it possible to select some geometry on the screen and save as either IGES or DXF?

Cheers

Assuming that you are talking about 2D, you should be able to do convert a drawing to IGES or DXF. Go to Tools then select Utility from there you should get a window called 'Batch Monitor'. Make sure that you are in the 'Utilities' tab in this window. One of the options should be called Batch-DXF-IGES-STEP select it and it should open a new window. From there you should be able to save your file in a variety of formats. Select your Output folder, your Output format and click Run to create the new file. Selecting Save will save your setup so you can go back to it and edit it later before running. Anymore questions you can Email me at znewman@ntnusa.com

Zack,
I am trying to save only few things from the view window. As of now I am hiding all other elements and save only shown geometry. I was wondering if it is possible to do that automatically without using hide/show. Are there any settings for it in options?
Cheers

Another way is as follows: select items to export, copy the selection, paste the selection into a new document of the appropriate type, SaveAs the new document as igs type. The may be more convenient than hiding a lot of geometry if only a few are need to be exported.

Instead of SaveAS, use ExportData as follows:
Igesdoc = "Example"
Call oDoc.ExportData(Igesdoc, "igs")
