Hi!
Does anybody now what release of Catia V5 that will be supported on Windows Vista? The reason for my question is if we could benefit of upgrade to Vista instead of XP for new 64bit workstations. We are now on W2K Catia V5R14 (R16 planned in April)

I think in short the full portfolio will be certified ...
It's not easy ... Check this:
http://www.3ds.com/vista
You have to think that Vista is a big change, and even companies like ATI or NVIDIA are having hard times trying to get decent drivers for Vista.
Moreover, not long time ago Microsoft was saying that OpenGL support was not native on Vista but through a kind of proxy software (a kind of translator). I think it won't be like this now.

Has anyone tried running Catia V5 yet on Ubuntu?
We have kind of messed around. Catia V5 R17 DOES install AND run under WINE on Ubuntu 7.10. The problem...we haven't got LUM to run quite yet, so no license available to test operations. Anyone tried this before with any luck?
I'll keep posted if we get it running.

I would expect pretty poor performance from graphics.

Hi,
Although it’s not officially supported by DS I am running CATIA V5 R18 SP2 64bit on Vista 64bit ultimate edition.
I have a Lenovo(IBM) ThinkPad T60P and it runs like a dream. I am in the NC manufacturing domain and the performance on material removal simulations and toolpath computations is fine.
The Vista install loaded the graphics drivers from the install CD and these gave some problems with flickering. I installed the IBM upgrade utility from their website and the graphics driver it installed works like a dream !!
PS The reason I went for Vista over WinXp 64 bit is that IBM haven’t created the drivers for WinXp 64bit for a T60P, specifically there is not Ethernet, Bluetooth or USB drivers.
Hope that helps. |

Great news MrsMonteCristo. I'm curious why you say CATIA isn't fully supported on Vista. This seems to give the impression it is - http://www.3ds.com/vista

Hi Roger,
I work for IBM in the UK and there is a difference between DS marketing web shows and the actual support internally for the product.
The DS website has been showing the vista support press release for over 12 months now but its only by trying R18 on vista myself that I found out.
Take a look at the hardware certification pages on the 3ds website and you wont see any mention of Vista on there !!
I have a dual boot on my thinkpad winxp 32bit and vista 64bit....The reason being that I need to demo the V5 manuf stuff in R18 on 64bit to try and compete with computration performance of the delcams, mastercams, etc, etc but I also needed to have a full Delmia install and it doesnt support vista yet either!! |

I installed R18 no service pack on x64 Vista business, it looks all good till I tried to crreate a sketch with Geometrical Constraint on, it crashes everytime. Its fine if the Goemetrical constraint is off. I found the cause of the problem. I run Vericut x64 and veritcut needs a little patch (its in the CD) to install to run on x64 system. That patch is causing the problem.
Did you run into this problem or you never had it problem? Any kind of adivce would be much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure V6 will support Vista
I currently run V5R18 (all SP's) on my x64 Ultimate Vista machine without any issues |

CATIA V5R18 SP4, available this week, officially announces support for Vista. CAA is not included. See the V5R18 SP4 Program Directory at http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27012007&aid=1
for details. (Hint: search the .pdf file using "Vista" as a keyword.)

Notice that it is only support for Vista 64 bit not Vista 32 bit.

We are on Catia v5r18 no SP loaded.
Computer: Dell
OS platform: Windows XP
Processor: Pentium-4
Our laptops are at 64bts (Windows XP 64 Pro – those that still work-)
(We are constantly upgrading and exchanging old hardware mostly from 32 to 64)
We primarily use the Manufacturing Modules.
Avg. CATProcess file: 250,000 kb
Question:
I am more confused about this the more I read. Can I assume, as we add new hardware to our system, and because our IT group lost most of our OS Software, and our local Fry’s electronics does not inventory Windows XP 64 Pro any longer, that we are still waiting for DS to provide us the new disks for Windows Vista?
BTW:
We eventually went on line to purchase a cope of Windows XP 64 pro. Yuck! This, we think, will keep us up and running until the Cavalry arrives (new disks saying, yup here is the disks for Windows Vista 32 and 64).
HELP! Jim |

CATIA V5 R18 SP4 onwards, in runtime only, is 100% compatible with Windows Vista x64 |

Thank You Dave. However, I am not sure I understand what runtime only means. Does it mean we can run Catia the v5r18 Manufacturing (CATProducts, CATParts, CATProoducts, CATDrawing, etc.) modules, with Vista, or is it something limited for systems gurus?
Thanks, Jim Lair |

CATIA V5R18 SP4 runs and is supported on Vista x64. We are testing it now at work. Catia is NOT supported on Vista 32 bit. I am really liking Vista x64. Running it at work on new certified hardware (Dell precisions) and also at home on my personal gaming machine. Been very stable for me at SP1 and I am running an old machine (socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3800+). I cant imagine going back to XP 32 bit.... |

Thank you, G. Pay dirt!
That is very good news, indeed. Is your platform Windows Vista Ultimate? Or rather can you be as specific as possible for us? What do I need to know if I order a copy from our local Fry’s electronic store? What can I expect to pay?
I am very interested. Yes, we are in love with the 64-bit processors too. We have been looking at the very same Dell offer too (from 3ds.com). http://www.plmmarketplace.com/Campaign/DELL_NA_qualification_page.aspx
Thanks, Jim Lair |
