Being a student, I make up my own bad habits on the fly :-)
Things like: Never make a plane from a solid face! Reason being is that if the solid changes, it can affect the plane which can snowball into a huge mess of errors.
I could use a list of catia bad-practice 'things' that I can look out for as I spend more time in catia.
Any help is much appreciated!!
Daniel

Great Idea Daniel
#2 ( for managers) Never purchace Catia, and expect to implement it, and get full functionality, without TRAINING, and I mean professional training.
#3 Never make geometry without knowing what the inwork object is
#4 Never open a R18 file in R19, and accidently save it.
There a start Dave |

Sketcher stuff:
Leave fillets out of sketches and make them as dress-up features operations except, curves that define major features of the design should be included in the sketch.
Profile sketches should be limited to lines and as few curves as necessary to describe the geometry.

I second the #4 never open a R18 file in R19, and accidentally save it. That one has cost me some serious Time / Headaches in the past.
#9) Learn how to build a well named / organized tree and file system. It might seem trivial on small jobs, but on the big ones it becomes an absolute necessity. This is one I still struggle with quite a bit. |

#10 Never do fixed bid NC programming
#11 If you ignore #10 .....Never do fixed bid NC programming, for an new customer, without a signed off preplan. That should suck Bryan Felsher into the black hole |

Far out! Thanks for the kind words.
I'm an NC guy also....(or was). Actually, I'm trying to get into the design side of things....up stream from the NC programmer role. I guess I got a little burned out with the job shop atmosphere...plus I really wasn't learning anything new and not going anywhere.
I've never used CATIA NC though I want to try it and see how I like it. Maybe I'll dig it and find a multi-ax programming spot somewhere.
Thanks again.

#17 Never do nothing but wine and complain about CATIA.Sure it's fun to poke at it, and have a good laugh at DS's expence. The reality is, as Roger says: ::CATIA keeps getting better all the time"
This is all fun, but I am not in the catia haters club. Got to get the balanace right, as DM sings.
PS I have beed doing 5-axis programming, for ..... since 1986 |

Dave says, hmmmm does the new bride monitor you COE posts PS 1982 I was the shop NC super at Tru-Bor, getting yelled at every 6.23 minutes by Ray Monks Sr. Thank god he fired me......
