Hi,

I have heared that in ProE, we can create a gear profile without using any sketches and only by using gear curve equation which is feed to the software.
I want to try the same in CATIA, I think its possible thru Knowledge tools. Can anyone tell me how to create a curve using equations.
Or if possible any example files .,

Thanks in advance

Cheers

You need to define the formulas defining the {X,Y} position of the points on the involute curve of a tooth. You could as well define a set of parameters x0, y0, x1, y1, ... for the coordinates of the involute's points.
However, Catia provides a more convenient tool for doing that: the parametric laws. In order to create a law, press the fog button and enter the law name as follows:

Then edit the formula of the 2 laws used for the X and Y coordinates of the involute curve:
• xd = rb * ( cos( t * PI * 1rad ) + sin( t * PI * 1rad ) * t * PI )
Creating Gear Geometry Templates
• yd = rb * ( sin( t * PI * 1rad ) - cos( t * PI * 1rad ) * t * PI )

The fog law function is a part of lower bar of CATIA opening screen.

Find three screen dumps of the process used to create the Involute Profile.
There are more to it but this will set you in the right direction.

I am getting Error Code 104 while attempting to Attach File(s), as such I am not able to include (Screen dumps) for this example. Sorry!!

Hi Prasad,

Thank u very much 4 ur suggestion.
I have created the profile and the gear using the fog tool.
I have some problem in it.
When it update the no. of (z) the teeth profile shows some error, ie, only below 20. Above 2o its working fine.
Can u pls solve this problem.
I have attached the file with this msg. (as like u in txt format (Gear.catpart))
This file will open in R16 only

Thanks in advance
Cheers
