I am somewhat familiar with the Knowledgeware Advisor in V5, however I am having problems with a specific task. I am trying to apply rules and parameters from one model to the next via powercopies. Every combination I have tried has not worked to my expectations. When I try to powercopy the geometry, parameters, and rules, it tends to rename everything in increments (i.e. length.1, length.2, length.3…). With a fully parametric model, this then becomes non-parametric because everything now has different names. Any suggestions?
Another approach I was going to try was to powercopy the geometry and then import the rule in from a catalog (this was suggested from help). The problem that I have with this is that I can’t figure out how to store a rule into a user defined catalog, or even to create a user defined catalog. Is this possible or does it need to be associated with a part body? Are there any other approaches I could take to solve this? |

It sounds to me like you have not included the formulaes that drive the design in the Powercopy.
If you have included the Parameters and Relations Sets you should not have any problem as all the links will be remebered. |

Since R14 you have to explicitly select the formulae or include the formula in a Geom set and select that at Definition.
But that may not be the cause of your problem. Just confirming Nevs post. |

Thanks for your help. We needed to create a driving parameter in the new part that we were trying to apply the power copy to. Also, the formulas needed to be related back to the driving parameter instead of being intrinsic. This driving parameter was part of the "Inputs of Components" in the power copy. All other parameters and rules are to be on the "Selected Components" side of the power copy. Keeping this in mind we were able to get it to work.
