Annotations are still only avaliable inside CATIA. We'll have to wait and see if R17 tagged it differently for the viewer.

Hi,
After digging to those files, I found:
<SpecificExtensionSet> <SpecificExtension id="1" name="ANNOTATIONS3D"> <AssociatedData>PD94bWwgdmVyc2lvbj0iMS4wIi...mambojambo....Bbm5vdGF0aW9uPg==</AssociatedData> </SpecificExtension> </SpecificExtensionSet>
that surely includes binary package of your annotations.
=> CATIA writes annotations to 3DXML already, but free viewer can not show them... yet.

Hi,
I just tested this testpart (product1) with CATIA v5R16sp6 and I was able to load 3DXML in catia, but not to show Annotations.... I thought that CATIA should be able to show them, when free viewer can't.
Anyone with different experiences?

I believe you have to have one of the FTA licenses, or the FTA viewer license (DT1), then you can see the FTA.

Hello.
I'm writing some program in Java and I need to decode Associated Data to get geometry data out of 3dxml file. Do anyone know how to do it? |

Hi,
My understanding is that DS has made a strategical decision to keep this data encrypted. => No way, not at least for free.
This allows them to get money from "advanced feature read" on future 3DXML readers... This doesn't make me happy

| So has anyone been able to view annotations in 3dxml? I am just curious. I don't mess with it anymore since it doesn't look like it will prove to be useful to me. |

Craig,
No luck, even R16sp6 with AL2 fails to show annotations that are inside 3DXML.

I dont get it... 3DXML viewer Release notes for viewer 2.0 says:
3. Release Notes Version 2.0 (July 20, 2006) • Support of 3D XML files using fonts
But even Viewer version 2.1 shows complete blank for any annotation or notation.
What "Support of 3D XML files using fonts" can mean that I don't get?

I think it is a mistype. If you look at it carefully, you can see what I believe the really meant.
3. Release Notes Version 2.0 (July 20, 2006) • Suckers
There must just be some major miscommunication between marketing, admin, the 3DXML group, and the programmers. What they have been doing lately with this shows one of the following
1) They are really messed up and don't know what they are doing 2) They are flat out lying 3) We all just can't figure it out
Who knows really! |

Craig,
I'll go and ask this from DS, we'll see if they answer with option 1,2 or 3... I bet that their answer will be number 3, with a mind bending explanation, but somewhere between lines will obiously be real reason that has some parts of number 1 and 2 at the same time. At least it'll be fun.

Acrobat3D will read CATParts and CATProduces, I think up to R15, but it won't read 3D Annotation, sections, ...

Craig,
After asking directly from DS an answer for this question:
" What "Support of 3D XML files using fonts" can mean that I don't get? "
I got an answer from DS that was like ...erm...ahem.... well... why do you need to know?
So your quess number one: "1) They are really messed up and don't know what they are doing" is correct.
I'll get back to this topic if I ever find an answer that makes more sense.
BR, Lasse

By the time DS figures out what direction they might want to go, another, more customer focused company, will have delivered something.
I'm not waiting around for the answer.... |

| I got a demo CD from Adobe last week at the Aero COE show. It has a PDF on it that has FTA in it. It is not perfect but they are getting close; closer than the 3DXML viewer. I attached an image of what the annotation looks like. The dimensions are there but the tolerance block is missing the tolerance. So for a $1000(us) you can publish your files and anyone else can read them. I haven’t made the purchase yet but it is coming. |
