Hi COE members. We have a need for a viewer on our non-engineering windows machines. The data will consist of Catia V4 models and V5 parts. What are some of the viewers in use at your facilities ? Any comments on why the version you are using was selected over another ? Any comments would be appreciated.

Enovia DMU is the best tool you can use. Though Adobe has come out with a new product that allows you to open CATPart's and CATProducts right inside fo Adobe. SO it really depends on what you want ot use it for.

I agree with Jon. The Enovia DMU viewers can read Catia natively. And Enovia DMU viewers do not have to sit on top of Catia Seats. They are stand alone seats so they will not take up your base MD2/HD2's. Let me know if you have any more questions, I work for a DS/IBM bz Partner....

We regularly export files in the 3DXML format and use the free viewer provided by Dassault. This would strictly be for visual review though as there aren't any dimensioning capabilities. I'm also not sure how well this would work for your V4 models as the 3DXML functionality wasn't added until some time during V5.

At the COE conference Dassault released 3D Live, a viewer for the non-engineering communities within the company. It looked slick and the hinted pricing seemed a little more reasonable than DMU licenses, but I'm finding it a struggle to get much in the way of real information about this product outside of their marketing fluff.

In regards to Prince's post...

Here is the link to the 3DXML player Catia V5 viewer from Dassault:

http://www.3ds.com/products-solutions/3dvia/3d-xml/player/

I downloaded it and attempted to install it but it said it needed to download something from Microsoft.

Install the MS package.
It's an XML parser (3D XML Player uses it to read and understand XML files).

We use Spinfire Pro from Actify.com for viewing any/all CAD data. With the optional Publisher we drag/drop any native/exported CAD file (V4, V5, UG, IDEAS, iges,...) into the in-folder and it creates a .3D format part that can be rotated, sectioned, or measured.

Delcam Exchange is also a good viewer of CATIA files, and it's free.

Depending on how much functionality your are looking for you might investigate AutoVUE from Cimmetry Systems. It can view a large variety of formats, allows for redlining, measurement and other functionalities.

Hey there my old friend !

Right now we are in the process of replacing SmarTeam viewer with Right Hemisphere for the Engineers. Hope all is going well !

Whoops, for non-engineering Windows pcs we are also using Right Hemisphere for Publications and Manufacturing viewers.
