Let's start a conversation regarding new ideas for training & education with COE. What worked in Orlando? What can be better? What should be added to the automotive, aerospace & defense and the next annual conference? What should be added online?

Colleen,
1. Hands-on
IBM's set-up in the live training room was outstanding. I was in several sessions and didn't see any problems at all. Lots of machines (blade machines that IBM thinks will replace standalone PCs), well laid out and just "just ran."
2. Gaps
I thought some of the holes between sessions were a little long.
3. Last session
We had two choices IBM or IBM - hmmmmm. what's wrong with picture.
4. The DS speaker
This man definitly knew what he was talking about. I could tell that from the one word in 10 that I could understand. Very annoying. Some of it is my problem, but many others couldn't understand him at all.
5. More handouts
Part of the value of these sessions is taking things back to the staff that couldn't make it. I know that most will be on-line somewhere, some time, but having paper to write notes on during the sessions would really help.
6. Session overlap
This is probably totally me, but Friday morning. I didn't really want to see any of the first sessions and I wanted to see all of the second sessions.
7. Suggested session
There was one thing that come up in a SmarTeam session that generated a lot of interest in the room. There is no way to roll the "test environment" into the "production environment." This means that you have to manually recreate the production system from the steps you used to create the test system. If you worked on the test system for weeks to get it "just right", it can be a real nightmre to know exactly what you ended up with. People were interested in how you document the changes and even more how you verify that the changes you make to the production server match that "just right" system you created on the test server.
8. Bird of Feather session -
You might consider having volunteers man a table in the main hall with signs on them during lunch, dinner and some of the longer gaps. The signs would indicate areas of interest like SmarTeam Installation, CAA Programming, CATIA macro programming, etc.
Just a few thoughts. I'll post others as I think of them.

I think 5 is the answer to 4. handouts to follow along with the speaker, would solve this, along with a place to jot notes, as your say.
I have a vision of the State of the Union addresses, with all our wonderfull congress(wo)men, following along with the speech.
I attended a Delmia COE, in Detriot, and one of the presenters in the main area to all, was the leader of one of the car makers, from Japan. He spoke in Japanese, and then it was translated live. Interesting concept, but the pauses, cut the speech content in half. It was a pretty amazing demo of an assembly line, with human robots.
These managers, like to personally show off the fruit of their labor, which is understandable. It takes passion to be that creative.
Good ideas.

This is precisely the sort of thing that would be helpful to me. I think I mentioned this in our discussion during the S&ME PIC meeting. Use cases for testing and deployment including how it was done, step-by-step would be really helpful. Including the documentation that was created to support the process.
I know it may not be directly applicable to my specific setup, but what that material can do is get me thinking about things I need to remember to record or test in my own instance that I might have missed until too late. 
Also, I thought the sessions about how companies were training their new hires were really helpful. I can't use some of the ideas, but expanded the palette if you will and I appreciated that a lot. |

I was refering to Laurent Bertaud on Thurdays. I was setting up a booth Monday and did not hear that presentation.
