How'd you like that earthquake?

Like your standing on a table, and 8 guys pick up the table and rock you back and forth.

We did OK here. Can't get anybody on the cell though

Nothing like the 6.7 back in '94

I gussed 5.7, so my internal richter is in need of calibration  Ha Ha

Ha Ha Ha,

I'm waiting to hear from Samirinder.
He may still be helping put the computers back togeather or looking for new moniters that did not break.

Dave,
I didn't go to work today so I enjoyed the shaking at home. I'll have to see the aftermath tomorrow at work and its pretty close to the epicenter I think its within 5-6 miles.

Well, I have been in Torrence Ca. at Catia Training MFG. Incat. all this week so far and it shook there not long but we felt it. My home and wife n kids were in Yorba Linda-Orange area and I hear it shook pretty good.. Came home to stuff on the ground broken all over the place. The pool water was down a good 6"inch from being splashed out. Not as much as the last big one but still a good amount. Everyone is ok. That's what is important, everything else can be replaced. Hope everyone else is good. More to come I would imagine.........after all, we are in Caili.

Didn't feel anything here in Florida...

I worked here in the mid 90's then went to Wichita/Cessna beside McConnell AFB with our building right beside the runway. Then I went to California and one day at work I felt a rumble like a jet or the shuttle taking off and somebody said " that must have been a 4.5". That's when I thought "holy smokes" "what the..." "son of a...". All we get here is a strong wind now and then with lots and lots of warning.

Hey Steve, you think you have it bad?
Gas is $8 or $9 / gallon here.
I haven't been driving since I got here.
I ride a bicycle 5 miles each way to work
And I actually knocked off a few lbs.
The excercize certainly can't hurt.
And I enjoy the fresh air in the morning.
I know you have been being more healthy so you might give it a try.
I refuse to wear the spandex.
The extra wind drag probably helps me get more excersize.

Boy things sure get quiet when I ask for a job.

Speaking of earthquakes, there's work in CA and the rate is up!

I am on vacation for the month of September anyway.

Model swapping has been a nightmare for us all.
Sibi understands the method that I used. I would try to swap the publish.
and check for problems before I saved. If there were too many problems, then I just publish the new one and attached all new motion to the new rev part and put the old rev part in hide. That isn't the way we would like it to work, but it is the smoothest way I know of.
Good luck and don't hesitate to ask for advice.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope. I do very much enjoy my home on Long Island and plan to continue calling Long Island home. Jackie and I will be getting married next year and you guys will be invited to the wedding.

Steve, there's a great presentation on COE called "your manufacturing questions answered.ppt"

It really explains it and works very well. Thank God, because I couldn't do it either before until reading this. If you can't find it, get a hold of me and I'll zip and e-mail it to you. You can contact me through my website.  Just do a search and it should be easy to find me by the company name plus Catia or programming or something like that...or just go to (www.trueprecisioncnc.com)

I've actually done quite a bit of programming for your parts...a lot of titanium 787 parts that you farmed out and I ended up programming...you guys should just use me directly instead of through the middlemen!  Plus I have a top notch programmer working for me now and he's HUNGRY!  Maybe we can talk when I get back from vacation- any time after August 10th.  Say Hi to Brian S-A-D-L-O-W for me.

Roger, that shop is NICE!  I've been there and had the whole tour.  One of the most impressive shops I've ever been to.  It must have been a lot of fun working there.  I miss Long Island, too.  Especially the clams!

Take care,

Bryan

I heard about Monitor when I worked at Boeing Bryan.  They have a reputation as one of the top shops in the industry.  That's why I went to work there.  I saw the parts they were doing and I wanted to make them.  So I hunted them down and got the job.  The parts I worked on are in a whole different league compared to the titanium tracks.

They start with a forged block of aluminum 3 ft x 3 ft x 10 ft. and end up about 100 lbs.  Awsome work on awsome machines and an awsome crew.

Next time you are on Long Island look me up Bryan.  I'll take you out fishing on my Boston Whaler if you like.

Wow- thanks Roger. Yeah, I know the kind of parts they make at Monitor and they are indeed awesome. Some of those parts would probably take 6 months just to write one program. I'd love to work there as well...but I have a 9 year old that pretty much keeps me planted in Los Angeles.

I couldn't stand making simple parts that to me were "child's play" so that's why I'm surprised I stayed even 6 months at Bandy- those titanium tracks were pretty simple, but honestly so was everything at Bandy (but the pay was outrageously good considering how easy the programming was, and I guess I wanted a break...with good pay, though I am embarrassed sometimes to admit I worked there)

Like you I prefer the big monster parts, with some meat on them and a real challenge! It's always more fun for me hogging parts over finesse machining tiny parts with tiny endmills, but I've had a pretty good mixture of both this year so far and it's been interesting.

HECK yeah I'd love to go on that boat! But this time next week I'll be in Alaska catching monster Halibut and hopefully some Salmon in the river! I haven't had a vacation in many years, and contrary to popular belief I work harder and MORE hours at home than I would at a day job (not to mention companies on the East Coast that like to call me very early in the morning!). And with the pay scale that companies like Northrop and Boeing are paying, I'm not even sure I make more money! Point is I need this trip and I can't wait to go.

So...after Saturday you guys won't hear from me for a week or so...happy programming!

By the way, I think that once my son is 18, I might take a job with Multax because I'd really like to travel and it sounds fun as hell.

I worked out of my home and out of an office that I rented and I know exactly what you are going thru Bryan.  You can never put it down and walk away.  You always feel like there is unfinished business.  You don't get time and a half for overtime and your work 120 hrs / wk.

From the sounds of it, you do better than I did though.  And whoever convinced you to take a vacation is your gaurdian angel.

You worked at Bandy too?  I thought that job was pretty good but the location sucked and so did those Hass machines.

Enjoy your vaction and forget about us and work.  Good luck fishing.
