Has anyone created a CATPart model of a holder and converted to dxf format for import into Vericut. I am having problems doing it and don't know what is going wrong.

The imported dfx is 104 inches too long in the x direction and up in z 19 inches. See attachment.

Just a couple of guesses from me;

CATIA outputs everything in metric, could vericut be mis-interperting the values?
Could the offset be relative to "axis 1"?

Larry

Thanks for your input.

I thought it did look like it was in metric when it went into the dxf. But I just opened up the dxf file in CATIA and noticed that the drawing axis is over in x and z the amounts it is off. It has something to do with this. When I check the drawing entities with CATIA measure they are in the correct place???? I am continuing to check this out.

I always used to save a holder as an .stl model. Of course it must be rotated and translated to the correct position in the World Axis system first. Import into Vericut and everythings worked fine.

I used to get the holders as direct downloads from companies like Kennametal that have them on their websites. They've always worked pretty well.

Don't know if this helps...maybe try importing as an STL?

Thanks for your response.

I talked to Vericut and they told me that Vericut will not check for collisions with STL holders unless you run it in Machine Simulation. If you don't run in Machine Simulation no collision testing is done on the STL holder and any entity in the session. That is why I wanted make CATParts of holders and save-as DXF and then use the DXF imported files to make Vericut profile holders.

The CATDrawing was the problem. I had to move the profile to the exact lower left corner of the page that is in the middle of the CATDrawing. Then is imported in the righ place. That location seems to be 0,0 for the dfx system export. Check out the attachment.

Thanks for the tip. Never knew that, and never knew how to do it. This is an awesome forum.

No kidding.

I have been wrestling with this problem for along time until I posted it on this forum today. I have wanted to make dfx files for cutter and holder profiles but they never came out right. I would work on it for awhile and then give up (ran out of time several times). For some reason everyones input from this forum somehow guides us to the solution.

So true. I can't tell you how many times I've figured something out that I posted questions on- but only from the great input from it's many members. I consider most of the guys on this forum among the "elite" of NC programmers. Great stuff.

It would be nice to have an option in save as dxf file and specifying the dxf origin as view origin.

Yeah right now I just drag the axis of the drawing to the corner and eyeball it. I get it within a few thousands but not right on 0,0
