Has something changed, in Constraint behavior, in a Catprocess ?

I usually open a product in a new window.

What I am seeing is if I constrain things, they update in the Catprocess. But if I use the manipulation tools to drag, rotate or snap, is does not update in the Catprocess, unless I fully Constrain the item. Fix (anchor) in a product in a new window , does not seem to update in the Catprocess.

Am I loosing it.

I don't remember it behaving like this before, but I don't get to program that much.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Dave

As far as I know manipulation is only a temporary change in the location of the object, and does not up date constraints. When the session is over they stay where you manipulated them but they have the "update" icon, and when you update them they return to where they were constrained.

Thanks Bruce

Actually, in this instance, there are no constraints. If you manipulare without constraints, than it update button does not move them (back to zero), but I don't remember this in R16. I will try it in r16

I guess that makes sense. I never thought about it.

I am using R18 and I remember it always being like this. But I am not a modeling expert either. I am just now (last 6mo) beginning to learn that part of CATIA since I no longer have a modeler or a Tool designer working with me. I now have to learn how to do that stuff myself.

I just put a picture on my profile. How long does it take to show up in the forum postings?

I noticed today that I was the only one without a picture. So I thought it was about time to put one up. It is us racing my boat in Dana Point.

Dave,
It is all about flexible vs rigid assembly.

Maybe it's time for another vacation Bryan.

I am in Spain today.  Was in Italy yesterday.  And will be in Moracco tomorrow.  Three weeks vacation isn't enough but it is soo good to take a break.

I'm taking another two weeks in October before I start my new job for Sikorsky October 20th.

Samarinder might be on to something.  I am quite sure that for NC, assemblies should always be set to rigid.

Yes, thanks guys. I always use rigid.... to the point where its automatic, and I forgot which Icons shows that I had a Flexible assembly.   I know something was upside down. I grabbed some one else's file.

I have only just been using rigid assemblies for the last 6 months or so. So I am not that experienced with it, when to use it and when not to use it. After you make it rigid can you add other parts to the assembly? What about clamps that you want to move to different locations with Manipulation? Is that out of the question when the assembly is rigid?

I did just experience a problem. For some reason the last time I went to make the assembly rigid, a few of the CATParts moved out of their current location. Is that because they weren't completely constrained in 3 dimensions??? I was supprised to see this happen. I didn't save and opened it back up and everything was where it was supposed to be. Any suggestions?

If the process is different from the product because it is Flexible, you can use the right click pull down on the product > xxxx.object >then Propagate Position to Reference. This will make the product match the process. Then make it Rigid.
