Hello Bryan, Are you trying to work with offline concurrent licenses? If you were able to pull an Offline license you should be able to put it back as long as no machine date changes have been made to the server or client. They must be syncronized with the time and date the the machines had when the license was extracted. Also the same clients target must be the same when it was extracted.

You may save yourself some time by removing SP05, testing your scenario than reinstall SP05 and test again. There may have been a hiccup when you did the initial SP05 install.

All scenario's were exactly as they were when I had SP04.

I can't afford the chance that I may not be able to restitute the license.

But for some reason, Catia won't let me reinstall correctly, so I may do a complete factory default restore on the laptop and install Catia from scratch to sp5 to ensure there is no virus at fault. If there is still a problem...I will use a hammer.

I wish they'd just use a dongle for the license. That is the easiest, most bullet-proof method. It is the best method.

 Webinar Announcement :

Subject Best practices and interconnectivity for  tool, holders adapter, catalogs, shop documentation, tool lists , 3rd party potential solutions

Date To Be determined by COE DPC / DS

COOL:  There will be multiple speakers

Main Speaker:  Mark Chitjian COE DPC

Agenda

(Subject to ideas from you but here is the start )

1. start with a demo of using excel to start a catalog with VB

2. Talk about the 2 different kinds of holders,  User representations / and those made with the GUI

3. Talk about the collision checking differences with these 2 different holder types mentioned, a Possible enhancement.

4. Invite any 3rd party tool management system, to describe their solution to us.

A.: I  already spoke with (CGTECH), and he can have someone do a short demo on CATIA V5 interface

B: I already spoke with Steve Sullivan (TDM), and he can have someone do a short demo on on the Tool Data Managment package.

I am sure Daniel Pyzak (Dassault Systems), will want to participate, and I will speak with him 12 noon PST tomorrow

This is #8 on PAC-MEN list

This shows a continuing effort on progress with the PAC-MEN & Dassault Systems, &  COE working together.

Right now, I think the solution for FMI, is to:

Create a Master Catalog in Excel

Use the Use My Model feature, to use a Catpart, as a user representation.

Use CATIA V5 interface to create tool list for Vericut

We PAC-MEN can discus our requirements, for the BIG PICTURE

I would like to try to Get Dassault Systems to enhance the software to:

1. use the user representation for all collision functionality, and  3-5 axis, etc.

2. Possibly create a new functionality, a linked tool catalog, not slurping tools out of the catalog, and placing them on the resource list

3. Where there is a tool catalog where multiple can users can use the same tool catalog, and there is some kind of live update.

Once again, the best questions are asked by the Beachman

Here it the thread that started it all. slurped from Steve Beaches thread

What's everybody doing for their cutters / adaptors / assemblies ?

The basic question stems from maintaining accurate representations of cutters in their holders, ensuring the latest changes are in the CATProcesses., without duplication of work by having to define the SAME cutters on several software's.

 Our dream is to

1) Have a cutter defined somewhere

2) Have an adaptor defined somewhere

 3) Have the ability to call up an assembly of cutters / adaptors / secondary adaptors etc. 4) Have the SAME definitions be able to work in Catia, Vericut, and our ERP system. (ie: avoid the duplication of effort !!)

Our ULTIMATE dream would be that if ANY of the component were updated, the next time you entered into a CATProcess, you would be flagged that one or more of the cutters in th CATProcess have been updated since the last save. Then you could decide to update to the newest, or re-create a cutter that will keep the current CATProcess AS-IS.

Example......

1)A Catprocess as a 1" end Mill w/ a 4.500" stick out.

2) We update the stick out on the cutter to 4.4".

3) We want the CATProcess to at LEAST flag us that the cutter has changed and we will need to verify that it still valid....or make an update to our program.

 Any ideas guys ?

What's working ?

What' not ?

Are you defining cutters offline in Catia, then using them as NC Representations ? Walter TDM ?

 How does all this integrate.

This is anothr BIG subject.......

I think links to all the relevant posts should be in one place.

I will work on that

That's great that progress is being made.

On the side note, after doing a system restore in the BIOS, and getting an emergency license from Dassault, I am back up and running on both computers.

I think one of the problems is that Catia is really made for large companies and not for contract programmers who need to move licenses around all the time. I'm hoping that in the future they create a standard dongle for us little guys. What a pain in the butt. I actually had to go to a psychologist about it and talk about Catia for an hour. It cost me $125.00. (Not the first time I've gotten therapeutic help for my Catiaphobia. This software is literally driving me knuckin futts! It's funny really.

I'm listening to Barbara Striesand "Memories" in the background to calm down....could it be that it was all so simple then....9 projects all at once 3 other guys asking me for programming time and no Catia will do that to you...!!!

A few of you should be expecting some packages after I get back from Alaska the 1st week of August...

One thing that's funny is that with R18, tool catalogues are one of the things that I like very much in Catia. It's much better than Mastercam. Okay...I said it. I like the tree and the tool catalogues in Catia.

My list of enhancements has changed. I really just want a few things.

1) A DONGLE
2) ABILITY TO AUTOMATIC PUBLISHING ALL ELEMENTS WITH LABELS THAT CAN BE TURNED ON AND OFF (AND CHECK FOR REUSE OF LABEL NAMES). ALONG WITH THE ABILITY TO TYPE IN THE LABEL NAMES INSTEAD OF CLICKING THEM. THIS WOULD ALLOW EASY PICKING/REORDERING OF SURFACES. (Would be very handy with MAFC paths as well as part families)
3) ABILITY TO RECORD MACROS IN ADVANCED MACHINING MODULE
4) ABILITY TO INSERT A PPWORD ANYWHERE IN THE PATH USING THE TOOLPATH EDITOR.
5) ABILITY TO SET DEFAULT MACRO'S AND INCH UNITS FOR ALL PATHS.
6) ABILITY TO USE A LOCAL FEEDRATE WITH ALL SURFACE CLEARANCE MACROS INSTEAD OF RAPID (ZLEVEL, SPIRAL, ETC...)
7) ABILITY TO TYPE IN A VARIABLE WITH MATHEMATICAL FUNCTIONS ANYWHERE IN ANY TOOLPATH WITHOUT HAVING TO USE "FORMULA" FIRST. EXAMPLE: FEEDRATE FINISHING = %(FEDMAC)*1.5 (where FEDMAC has already been established as a user variable)

There's lots of other stuff that would be "cool", but these are the things that would make programming much, much faster for me and I promise I'd never, ever complain again....ever...ever...I promise?

You go Bryan, the "not the first time." was the part that I thought was different.
"catiaphobia?" Is there such a thing? If there is Bryan you will find it...............

It's much better than Mastercam. Okay...I said it. I like the tree and the tool catalogues in Catia.

Glad I was sittin down for that one.................

Glad to hear things are moving in a posative direction for you Bryan. Your vacation sounds great.
I'm talking 3 weeks in Sept. to see Spain, Italy, and a few other countries with my gf.
This job has been kind of a winding down session for me. I'm working 40 hrs/wk max the weeks I do work.
Someday I'll have to work on tearing myself away from this and a bunch of other forums that I spend way to much time in.

I will make a tool catalog post in one of the tool catalog threads.

Who in the PAC-MEN group, would be interested in being a Beta Tester for pre-release versions and SP's

Lets be proactive, and offer our assistance,

Than see if Dassault takes up on the offer.

My guess is, eventually they will once overcoming logistical hurdles.

Testing by us, I think, will help deliver cleaner versions, without having  some of the little nuisance things that come up.

I do not know what the DS Beta policy is, but I can politely say it could improve a tad. Lets offer to help.

Also, any one out there that wants to join the PAC-MEN group, come on in. The waters warm.

I would be happy to, but I only have an educational license.

It unlocks everything though.

Good day everybody,

I am new to COE but came across this discssion forum while searching the internet for Catia NC tips and tricks. I am an avid Catia designer and V4 MFGPROG 3 Axis programmer but my stint with V5 NC is relatively new. All my experience with aerospace 5axis programming is on UG NX3. I am finding it hard to switch to V5. I am still to find the equivalent of UG's "Sequential Mill" in V5. Hope it is OK for the members if I follow this discussion in my quest to explore V5 NC. My company in India does NC programming for US/EU customers and our Dutch subsidiary provides contract NC programmers in West Europe and North America.

I personally feel this discussion forum is a valuable source of information for newcomers like me. It is great to hear from such experienced people.

Best Regards

Amrit,

I invite you Join our PAC-MEN enhancement group

COE & PAC-MEN are getting things done.

We don't care where you are, or if you are new to V5,  only that you have good ideas and the passion to deliver them.

Please take some time to check out the posts as there is a lot of info here.  It's fun to start at the beginning, and watch the momentum grow, as COE, and Dassault personnel chimed in.

You do not need to be a COE member, to be a PACMEN, but as you explore the pages of this thread, you will see the benefits joining COE documented,

Ask any questions about COE & PAC-MEN

Please take a close look at the posts by Mark Chitjian as he is the COE DPC chair, especially the one dated 08 May 2008 10:44 AM

Here is a snippet from that

COE has setup a Manufacturing Forum open to COE members only. The purpose of this forum is to allow more open discussion and dialogue of sensitive topics without the public visibility on the "open" forum. One of our goals in this forum is to encourage DS to participate in these discussions without the fear of the competition having any visibility. At this time I believe all PACMEN members (who are COE members) should have access to the forum.

Any COE member can join the forum by making a request to Jim Barkelew or myself, we will grant you access. It is a great reason to become a COE member.

Best Regards, Dave

20 Aug 2008 08:20 AM

Amrit,

Welcome to the COE Forum. As Dave has mentioned, there are many benefits to being a COE member. Jim Barkelew and I are the chairman of the NC DPC (Development Planning Council). Our function is to collect, distribute and monitor all member enhancement requests sent to DS. We are the interface between the users and DS. The manufacturing forum has quite a few savvy contributors and we enjoy spirited discussions on many topics. Lots of knowledgeable people frequent this forum.

There will be many excellent presentations at the COE Aero Workshop in October. Check the home page of this website for more details. Going to the workshops is a great way to meet and compare notes with people in your industry. It is definitely worthwhile to attend.

Once you become a member, let Jim Barkelew or myself know and we can sign you up for access to the "Members Only" forum. It is monitored by DS and they post on occassion.

I'd like this enhancement:

In product and Part Design, there is an option to check and make sure no two bodies or pieces of geometry have the same name, and it automatically renames when we do a copy-paste.

I'd like the same thing in machining for copy-pasting MO's. That would be GREAT!
