Hi,
Does anybody know of a way (...or the best way) to automatically associate an alternative cgr every time a part is saved? ...and when saving thru VPM Navi?
My concern is with the default cgr that is associated to any given part. It seems you need to define the accuracy settings for the cgr generation process to be fairly loose in order to keep the files sizes down and also to keep graphic performance acceptable when many parts are loaded. There is a sweet spot where you get good enough accuracy for most tasks and performance is OK.
So I am thinking, is there a way to assign an additional high resolution cgr to each part each time the part is saved in the db? and is there a way for a user to easily activate this alternate shape? It seems the Manage Representations dialog in CATIA might not see alternate reps saved in the db...
My thinking is that typically you want to load the lower quality (default) cgr for good performance. You want to stay in visualization mode for many tasks but often these cgr's do not have good enough accuracy. At this point, the alternative is loading in design mode which easily can be 100x time penalty. So, you might want to pick a handful of critical parts and choose to load the alternate cgr in order to get very accurate DMU sections or clash/clearance results. The time penalty for the highest res cgr possible is only about 3x time penalty compared to your avg cgr, so there are significant time savings here if you could do this sort of thing.
So my questions are,
- What is the best way to associate such alternate cgrs in Enovia (automated process)?
- How would the user load the alternate representation thru VPM Navi/CATIA?
- Anyone done this, or is there a better way to deal with this?
Thanks,
