Meaning the tree has no text, or the tree is gone completely. If it's gone completely it's either because you scrolled it off the screen, you've "hid" it using F3, or you've zoomed it so small that it appears to be a line.

If the first is the problem, you'll see the blue scroll bars on the left. Just grab the scroll bar and drag it to the top or bottom until the tree appears.

If the second is the problem, hit F3 (if nothing changes, hit F3 again to make sure you're back to where you started).

If the third is the problem, click on the absolute axis system in the bottom right corner of CATIA and use your normal 3D zoom to zoom the tree (middle hold + left tap and glide your entire mouse forwards/backwards).

If there is no text like in your picture... I'm at a loss...

Missing Text in the tree is typically a graphics problem. What Graphics Card and Driver are you using?

In the future, instead of reinstalling CATIA simply delete all of your CATSettings. It has essentially the same effect for most purposes. They are located at:

C:\Documents and Settings\SKWOK\Application Data\DassaultSystemes\CATSettings

Where SKWOK is your computer login name. Just delete all of the files in that folder and CATIA will reset to default options.

I strongly suggest customizing your options and then zipping up this folder as a backup for a quick way to restore your 'good' settings.

Your questions suggest that you are a new user. Do you have access to other CATIA users are you a single user? Is formal training possible? If not there are cheaper options in the order of $100 instead of $1800 that will serve as an excellent starting location.
