I need to save a product to another location and the parts contained within. Problem is the product has about 200 parts or products and only about 60% need to move with the product to the new location. I also need to rename the file for all the moving parts, can someone please tell me the best way to manage file names and location changes in V5 without causing path problems, etc.

Thank you in advance...

Jon

The best way to do is thru "savemanagement".
Select the product and use "propagate directory". Apply "Reset" for parts which u not requred to change there location. And use "Apply pattern" to rename the file.

Thank you,

I was succesful using the reset, but is there a way to rename files using pattern that will replace the exising name with a new sequential naming convention?

Good,
Its ok.
Thru "Pattern" you can add convenient name to ur existing file name.
I don't think we can remove existing file name.
If anybody helping on this it will be greate.

Thanks

Jon,

I think you'd have to use automation to create a sequential naming pattern. How predictable is the sequential naming pattern?

Our files are name with job number and unit number so sometimes the job number changes or we simply want to use the files for a different job. For example, job number 70068-902-804-U104-200 may need to change to 70070-902-807-U106-200.
The example above is for the tooling, but each detail file is named like this:
70068-902-804-U104-301...70068-902-804-U104-302, etc.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated, also any recommendations on naming conventions due to Catia's lack of options regarding this subject.

Thank you,
Jon
