Is anybody running 64 bit Catia on a Dell T3400 with Windows XP 64? If so, What video card are you using? What version of Catia? Is Catia running stable?
Thanks to all in Advanced,
Kerry |

We are running 64 bit CATIA on Dell T5400's with:
- Quad Core Xeon Proc X5460, 3.16GHz, 2X6MB L2 Cache,1333MHz
- nVidia Quadro FX 4600 768MB graphics cards
- 16GB DDR2 ECC SDRAM Memory
The only issue we had was with the Dassault certified Nvidia graphics drivers. They would not work with CATIA. We could open CATParts with no issue, but CATProducts would crash as soon as the graphics in the file were loaded. We ended up using the latest "Performance" drivers from Nvidia, and all is well. I hope this helps!

| Did you PMR this? Even if you found something that works, it needs to be reported to DS that their certified configuration doesn't work. Then they can fix it, or recommend a new driver. |

Hi
I also have some problem with the Nvidia drivers. I have a Quadro FX5500 and I see some surfaces in black color ....... if I use another workstation (with another graphic card) ........ work perfectly |

Jim,
Not quite sure how to go about it (PMR). Maybe you could share this info with me? Not even sure what it stands for. LOL I would love to know how, as I have run into a serious issue since we switched to R18 (I will be posting a message shortly in this forum on that). Thanks in advance for the help.

| Get with IBM or your VAR(Incat, Rand, or whoever you buy CATIA From) and they can help you. If you have the Extended Service from IBM, you can access the PMR database directly and submit it yourself. If you don't, your VAR can submit it for you (I think). Check with your in-house IT group to determine who there is authorized to submit this. |

Curious, Have you noticed a significant performance improvement using 64 bit versus 32 bit CATIA? |

I can't say for sure on actual performance becasue I haven't ran 32-bit and 64-bit on the same hardware. The biggest advantage for me is to get past the memory limitations of 32-bit.
Maybe someone else has done some benchmarking.
Thanks, Kerry |

| I did some benchmarking about two years ago. Overall there wasn't much difference between 32 bit and 64 bit as long as the test fit within physical RAM and did not cause memory swapping to disk. Drawing view creation was about 20% faster with the 64 bit computer. The two biggest factors were the increased capacity and stability of 64 bit CATIA. For example, I took a multiview drawing sheet and duplicated the sheet (copy/paste) multiple times. On the 32 bit computer, CATIA crashed before I got to 5 sheets. On the 64 bit computer, I was able to add 75 sheets and CATIA still had not crashed (I stopped at this point because I had reached the physical RAM limit of 8 GB). These tests were done with R16. |

| Same as above. I don't know of a significant performance increase in 64 bit on the same hardware, but the RAM limitations of 32 bit is the most relevant. I did use a dual quad 16GB 64 bit machine once to run 8 separate instances of catia for running macros though... naturally the additional ram was crucial because although no single instance ever used more than 1GB, combined it was far more than the 4GB limit in 32 bit paging... |

Hello,
We have seen this problem as well. Some of our 64-bit Catia workstations would simply freeze for a minute or so. Sometimes they would even turn off the monitor and then turn it back on. The version of the NVIDIA driver did seem to be the problem. I've been using the version from 7-12-06 for the past three weeks without any freezing at all.
Thanks |
