This may be painfully easy but I can't think of a way to do this.

I have a model with a final join (with child closesurface).  The join is made of 100 surfaces of multiple operations (MSS, SPLIT, DATUM etc).  All of the parent surfaces are in show, so you can imagine multiples surfaces upon surfaces all in show.

I want to select only what is a parent of the final JOIN and put it in show, and now show all the rest of the "junk" and definition surfaces.

I have tried using "Parent/Children" and quick select, but haven't found a solution.

Any ideas?

Not sure I completely understand what you want to do...

1. To see the direct parents of the join and nothing else, try quick select on the join and turn on the "Hide other elements" and "Parents" options.

2. Otherwise, i'd recommend using the historical graph. You could select all the parents or just certain ones from there and hide or show them as you need. Also, try to use quick select on the historical graph to look at certain parent elements alone. You'll find that quick select on the historical graph itself is very powerful.

Maybe that helps?

Make a copy of the Join. Then delete the copy. It will brin all of its immediate parents into show.

Actually it will only do that when you delete the last join existing. And not, unfortunately, if another join still exists.
1) Select the join
2) Press CTRL-X. The surfaces are brought into show
3) Press CTRL-V. The join is reinstated. The surfaces remain in show

How about that for a 2 click solution?
