Hello all.

I have a question. I must make a "death" part that must be colored based on a coloring standard. So I have to color hundreds of faces in a ceratain color. OK. This is not a problem.... But what if I have to exchange (replace) the part body??? How can I transfer the color of the faces???

I tried to make a selection set and than to replace the part body. I expected Catia to ask me for the faces that belong to the selection set, but NOT and it doesn't work in this way.

Any idee???

Thank you.

Can you tell us which release and sevice pack you are using? Also, maybe a little more explanation as to what you mean by a "death" part. That could prove to be very useful information.

Hello GVAN

You are right. Maybe I was a little bit simple in my explanation.

For me "Death" model means a Pasted Special Without Link model without any history.

So I have a model with history but the toolmaker requires a model without history and with colored faces (based on a coloring standar).

The problem appear when I want to replace the "Death" model with a new, modified one. I have to make all the coloring process again.

If you are using R18 - Tools - Options -- Infrastructure -- Part Infr -- Part document.
Turn on Inherit colors from reference.....
Copy
in new document
Paste Special--As result with link.
Contextual menu over linked solid body - isoloate.
Prior versions
The easiest method - step out - step in using AP214

Derek

Zolybee,

Use "Paste Special: As Result With Link" into a new CATPart. You will retain all your colors even if they were "face picks". With this methodology, your tool maker will have a part file with no history, and you will have a linked part which will update. You may need to open both parts concurrently to get the linked one to update after a change. Also, you may need to physically change the geometry of the master file if you only changed the colors in it, and want the linked file to sense the need for an update. You could change the original pad height and then change it back, for example. You also may wish to "Change Part Body" in the linked file so that your linked part becomes the main PartBody. This will work very well. I just tried it in R17 SP6. Good luck.
