Can anyone tell me what hardware specs they are using for an in production foundation server with a minimum of 200 users?
Is Dassaults minimum requirements acceptable? |

Our foundation server just got upgraded, we're running 4x Dual-core Xeon 2.66Ghz (8 cores total), 8GB DDR2-667 ECC memory, 0.8TB of 15K RPM SCSI drives in a RAID0. Performance, I'd say, is probably good enough to scale to about 400 users (we are currently at ~100).
Hope this helps. |

SmarTeam doesn't really require a lot of horsepower. Your biggest demand will always be the database with vault services a close second. I have found that breaking out the various foundation services gives the most flexibility (as opposed to having all of foundation on one or two servers). To this end I have chosen to virtualize all my servers (except licensing because that won't virtualize). This allows me to allocate resources to the server(s) as needed. My current configuration is a two node ESX farm running around 20 various W2K3 servers of which five are for SmarTeam (i.e. configuration, vault, workflow and FTS, web, admin, and yes, even Oracle...) The two physical hosts have two dual 64-bit processors with 16GB of memory and a small dedicated SAN (EMC AX100). Since I'm running Multi-Site I have an identical farm at the other site. We current support 60-70 concurrent users between two different databases
Now there are those that would scoff at running the Oracle database in a virtual environment, but it really all depends on the size of the database you have. We are fortunate that we can basically fit the entire database in memory during runtime so we don't take a bit I/O hit. That said I'm just about out of growth on the database (two separate instances now).
Future plans are to now expand the ESX farm from 2 nodes to 8. Virtualize another 100 servers. Install a new four node Oracle RAC with gobs of capacity and consolidate all database services (including SmarTeam) onto that.
Maybe more than you wanted to know, but it's at least an interesting variation on the typical setup.
Ciao Peter
