I am in the process of installing a new smarteam Foundation server and need some
advice on which Oracle database server version should I use. I already have a
test smarteam server running Oracle 9i. Should I stick with 9i or can I use 10gR2?

As I am running Catia V5R17, I will be installing Smarteam R17 as well.

As far as migrating my existing database, I am planning to take a dump of my
database and do an import on the new server.

Many thanks

Hi Krish,

We have an installation of SmarTeam R17 (Editor and Web) running over Oracle 10gR2 and works very well.

Hi Mateo,
Thanks for your quick reply.
You mentioned Smarteam Editor, that's on your client side!
What Oracle are you using on your smarteam server (Foundation). Is that too 10gR2?

Thanks again

I would second that recommendation for two reasons. Oracle 10.2 ships with v5R18 so you're good to go already when you upgrade next. Second, there is a nasty issue with x64 clients with anything less than 10.2. Specifically, the Oracle client will fail to connect on an x64 client when the application is installed to path containing a parenthesis ( i.e. C:\Program Files (x86) ) This is why you will see the SmarTeam installation deploy to C:\SmarTeam when it detects that it is being installed to an x64 PC. Do yourself a favor and go with 10.2

Krish, I recommend to use the same version on yours Oracle clients thant your Oracle Server.
I mean, my Oracle Server is 10gR2 and my Oracle clients are 10gR2

I think is the only way to use 10gR2 on client and server. Or 9.2i on client and server. Never mix the Oracle versions.
