Subject: Smarteam installation advice

Hi,
     I am about to set up a fresh install of smarteam on new hardware, and would like
some advice on number of 'machines' needed.

We have 2 SUN Fire X2200, with 2 dual core processors (2.4GHz AMD), with 8GB
of RAM each. i.e I have 8 processor cores in all.

I need to install the following configurations

1. SMARTEAM Foundation
2. SMARTEAM Editor
3. SMARTEAM Workflow
4. SMARTEAM Web
5. Oracle 10gR2 database server

6? May be multi-site at a later stage!!

We are going to use it mainly with - Integration with CATIA V5 software and we
are not likely to have more than 80 users in total using the system.

I am planning to set up a number of Windows 2003 Virtual servers on the two machines

Do I install each of the above (1 - 5) on separate virtual servers?

What is the best way to proceed?

I have a virtual environment (V5R18) and I choose to use one server for each foundation core element (total of six servers per site) as follows.

1 Configuration and Session management
2 Vault and replication
3 Workflow and FTS
4 Multi-Site Admin and Data Modeling
5 Web Editor
6 View Server
7 Oracle (really should be a physical server)

I have been running with this setup for almost two years now. I find it is easier to manage the core elements separately. One thing to always keep in mind with virtual environments is that you MUST house license services on a physical server. LUM has code that thwarts binding to a virtual ethernet adapter.
