Subject: Import non-CAD files in SmarTeam in Bulk

I need to get a ton of non-CAD files (PDFs, TIFFs) checked in to SmarTeam. I thought I could use SmarTeam-Admin Tools-Import for this but I can only get the profile card created and the object in state NEW. Is that the best I can do with the Import tool? Is there an example out there in SmartScript of checking in non-CAD files from a dir (bulk loading)? They don't need to be linked or in a certain folder or anything - just checked into SmarTeam with their file name used as the description (ala SET_DESC). Any ideas?

I have searched this forum but can't find what I am looking for so I apologize if I have missed it. If the answer has already been posted, maybe you could just direct me to that post.

Do you not have access to the import utility within SmarTeam? You can generate an excel file with locations, file names and profile attributes and this utility to bulk load into ST.

Thank you for responding. Yes, the import utility is what I have tried so far (SmarTeam-Admin Tools-Import right?) but the best I have been able to do is fill out the profile card, I have not been able to figure out how to actually go the next step and check the files in. Any ideas on how to get the files checked in?

If you check SDE Smarteam Design Express, there´s a tool to import non-cad data in bulk mode.
I´m not sure if it can be adapted to your DBs, I did it last year (we imported almost 5000 documents, even selecting the class accordingly to the file extension).

Whoa! That sounds like exactly what I need!! We have full-blown, old fashioned, SmarTeam not SDE SmarTeam Design Express. I was under the impression that the Express packages were streamlined versions of the full-blown version. Do the folks with the old SmarTeam have access to tools in SDE?

Just curious what is wrong with CheckinIn/Releasing them after Import tool?

Well, that is a good point. I was hoping for an all-in-one tool that would do everything. But I have the import tool working so it gets the profile card done and then I am planning to multiselect a bunch at a time and just let it run. Thanks!

After you have the profile cards created using the bulk import, you multi-select them all and perform a lifecycle ->check-in to pull the files into SmarTeam.
