Hi All
This question feels like im asking to find the holy grail but im hoping its not at all.
Bottom line is i need a way to save a V4 Session that i have sent from VPM to V4, to a local filesystem, so that i can open it successfully in File based V5.
To elaborate i have done this successfully on a small 10 model file based session following the guide in the V5 online docs but its very time consuming. What would solve my problem easily is if VPM was linked to the V5 PC using 3dCom or if V4 had a Save management tool like V5 so i could relatively quickly do a file based "Save As" on each component in the session.
Ok the Online docs say that “Only V4 Sessions saved "References only" can be read in CATIA V5” No problem,
1. send all the models to V4 from VPM to build the session
2. File – Save Session As “References Only” (Note down the DLNAME of the directory used to save the session V4_SESSION_EXPORT for example)
3. File – Save As – Each model in the session to a declared directory again note this down (V4_MODEL_EXPORT for example)
Note: Its this step 3 which takes Way too long !
4. Transfer all the data to the PC by whatever means, probably tar and ftp because of the bloomin “±” characters that unix uses for file name spaces
5. Set up V5 DLNAMES to match that of those used in V4 earlier, copy the data into these folders.
6. Open the Session in V5 and Voila.
Hopefully somebody out there knows of a magic “Export” function in VPM or something as I cannot be the only one wishing to save sessions from VPM locally.
Many thanks for anything.
