Can any one tell why do we require sheet metal design and generative sheetmetal design? Both workbenches has the similar commands but some commands shows error (please use other work bench to do this operation / this command is available in xxx only) What is the difference of these workbenches? Why to switch over to another for similar operation? i am not able to find the difference in HELP document. atleast some one can ........

Hi Sam,
We use the "Generative Sheetmetal Design", I was told by our rep that "Sheet Metal Design" is an older module that for some reason is still available.

Yes, Sheetmetal Design is an older module. It is still available, because there were a number of companies that used it and still have parts built using it - and they cannot be upgraded to the newer module.
The primary differences are under the covers. Generative Sheetmetal Design uses some newer algorithms that are significantly faster to process than the older application. |

May be faster to process, but have experienced that treating the part as 2 surfaces instead of a solid has created some annoying side effects/inconsistency between sheet metal part and Part workbench parts.

This is typical Dassault! 3 Sheetmetal Workbenches if you include Aerospace Sheetmetal. I wonder if the Generative Sheetmetal algorithms came from Solid Works or Matra or something they bought?
Its nearly as bad as having 5 surfacing workbenches! (FSS, GSD, ACA, IMA, QSR) |

Hi All, What I was told when I participate the testsession for V5R13 at Dassault was that the "old" Sheet Metal algorithms had serious performance problem. Dassault has build the Generative Sheet Metal with the algorithms from Aerospace Sheet Metal. It is possible to declare a variable to hide the old Sheet Metal.

Thanks to all. Ian Phillips. V5 Specialists expressed the same what I have in my Mind. Thanks Philips. Nearly I am still thinking which is the higher/superior workbench to go ahead with all options? Funny side is if you use some commands the message shows please use GSD, ACA or etc… to do this operation or error message “Internal error” OK.. At least Dassault! Systems have to express which workbench for what separately.
Anyhow thanks to all keep in touch
