Make Plans to Attend the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy
Phil Harrison, COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy Chair, LionHeart Solutions, Inc.

Last month, COE Board Member Jim Strawn told you about the timing and structure of the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy. Now that the grid has been confirmed I’d like to let you know about some of the highlights and specific sessions scheduled.

2008 marks the second year for the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy, and based on attnedee feedback from 2007, we have added a workshop orientation for first time attendees. This orientation introduces first-timers to COE and our objectives, as well as telling them how to make the most of their workshop experience.

The workshop opens on Thursday, May 1 at 8:00 a.m. in a general session where various track chairs describe the objectives and content of the workshop's three technical tracks. Immediately following,  Stéphane Declée, Senior Vice President, ENOVIA Global Research & Development, will describe the major changes in architecture of the Dassault Systèmes product line as we move from the V5 to V6 product lines.

Following Stéphane, Mark Holt, Technical Strategy Leader, IBM PLM, will present a brief description on how to build a reliable, available and scalable PLM environment, with particular emphasis on the hardware and software infrastructure required to deliver a secure environment.

Les Troyer, The Boeing Company, will round out the Thursday's general sessions by sharing his experience in developing and deploying software to non-English speaking countries around the globe.

Over the course of the next day and a half, attendees have the opportunity to attend technical breakout sessions, (divided into three tracks: PDM/Server Deploy, Develop and MCAD/Client Deploy), and COE University Hands-on Training sessions. The technical breakout sessions are focused on very specific topics within tracks to give you specific knowledge that you can take back to your company and implement. Thus, whether you’re a CAA code developer, LCA architecture developer or CATIA administrator, the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy has a session of interest to you.

A new addition to the current technical tracks includes a roundtable (PDM/Server Deploy) and a problem solving and discussion session (MCAD/Client Deploy). These new sessions provide you with the opportunity to hear best practices and share your experiences with others.

In addition to the formal educational opportunities available, you will have plenty of opportunities during the day to meet and network with your peers and users from other companies, through refreshment breaks, lunches and networking receptions.

Another great aspect of the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy is the SolutionsFair. Taking place both days of the workshop, the SolutionsFair is where you can explore offerings from service providers as well as software and hardware suppliers. Whether you’re from a large enterprise or small company you will find products of interest in the SolutionsFair, while also relaxing and building your professional network.

On Friday afternoon, Conrad Kimball, The Boeing Company, leads the first general session of the afternoon, discusses how Boeing has overcome the challenges of deploying V5 in it’s global extended enterprise to support development of the 787 Dreamliner. In particular Conrad will talk about Boeing’s LCA implementation which has enabled global collaboration around the globe using both thin clients and thick clients.

To wrap up the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy, Jim Strawn, Cessna Aircraft Company and COE Board Member, moderates the first-ever Develop & Deploy forum. Representatives from COE member companies will share their challenges in developing or deploying Dassault Systèmes’ solutions. Additionally, representatives from Dassault Systèmes and IBM will be on-hand to suggest resources and potential solutions. The forum will close with time to take questions from the audience. However, questions submitted in advance to speakers@coe.org are greatly appreciated!

This year is shaping up towe have an exciting agenda specifically tailored to developers and implementers of Dassault Systèmes technology. I hope to see you at the COE 2008 Workshop - Develop & Deploy workshop in Florida.

Submit Your Open Forum Question in Advance of the Annual Conference

The COE Open Forum is considered, by a large majority of our attendees, to be a significant benefit of attending the COE Annual PLM Conference & TechniFair. Attendees have the opportunity to address questions and issues not addressed in other sessions in an open discussion.

If you have particular questions or concerns that you would like the panel of experts to address, submit your question in advance of the conference. Providing questions in advance of the conference gives COE the opportunity to correlate the questions to better assure a more meaningful and accurate answer.

Please have your questions submitted on or before April 1, 2008. We look forward to hearing from you!

Nominate Your Favorite Discussion Forum Contributors

Every day, users are posting helpful messages in the various discussion areas of the COE Discussion Forum. COE would like to recognize the favorite forum contributors by establishing a nomination campaign. If you have found one or more contributors who have been helpful or are your favorite contributors, submit your nominations, with a brief explanation, in an e-mail to coe@coe.org.

You may nominate one contributor or many. The COE Web Committee will compile the nominations and recognize the Top 10 contributors in an upcoming issue of NewsNet and at the COE 2008 Annual PLM Conference & TechniFair in Florida this April. Please submit your nomination on or before March 31 to coe@coe.org
