ENOVIA SmarTeam Addresses Entire Design-to-Manufacture Process Employing Multiple Product Representations

Connecting product development information silos from an engineering perspective requires an approach that overcomes the limits of separate systems while streamlining processes. Within an organization, different users can execute different typical roles such as product manager, configuration manager or engineer, and from various departments such as engineering, design, human resources, senior management, sales, etc. Regardless of their roles, users involved in the product development cycle need multiple representations of product data and the organization as a whole requires a proven best practice to connect information silos, taking into consideration issues such as ownership, sharing of processes and data, security, and engineering and configuration changes. ENOVIA SmarTeam enables companies to manage the product structure with exceptional flexibility, standardizing delivery of product knowledge across disciplines within and beyond engineering using multiple representations of product data. With ENOVIA SmarTeam, companies can share ideas across teams regardless of rank or function.

How can customers establish effective BOM (Bill Of Materials) management to overcome the challenges of handling vast amounts of diverse, inconsistent and redundant data, while complying with the business rules of an organization?

In order to gain better visibility and control over product development processes and significantly accelerate the time-to-market of a product, multi-disciplinary item and BOM management is essential. DS ENOVIA SmarTeam has developed a PLM offering that lets customers monitor and track the entire product development process from its preliminary design, through the detailed design, onwards to engineering, and culminating in production.

ENOVIA SmarTeam addresses the entire product development process – from design to manufacture – utilizing a tool known as Multiple Views that enables users to see Multiple Product Representations. Various representations of the same product means that a user can see, compare, analyze and search for data related to a product in various configurations, either in a tree structure or in an output inside a BOM Editor. These representations of the BOM vary according to task. With ENOVIA SmarTeam, users involved in the preproduction stages have an effective means of tracking, viewing or manipulating data with Configuration Views, such as “As-Designed”, “As-Planned”, “As-Manufactured”, “As-Built” and “As-Maintained”. Using this approach, the entire product team can be involved in simultaneous, integrated design, BOM, and workflow management.

For BOM-based engineering companies, Item Management is the basic backbone for managing product maturity. ENOVIA SmarTeam’s new out-of-the-box, item-driven, lifecycle best practice approach enables product items to be moved to any engineering state at any time – enhancing the organization’s ability to react swiftly to ensure item quality and maturity – and by supporting engineering configuration management and concurrent engineering scenarios.

Management of Multiple Representations Extends Business Agility
Traditionally, customers have used different software and hardware across different disciplines, naturally leading to redundant and inconsistent data. However, customers can now use ENOVIA SmarTeam ¬for Multiple Views to handle different product structure variations that are created by applying complex configuration criteria, combined with Item Lifecycle Revision Rules. Performing product structure manipulation and BOM editing within one Configuration View does not affect other Configuration Views of the same assembly.

Multiple Views management provides an out-of-the-box environment for managing cross structural data flow throughout the product lifecycle. The core product of ENOVIA SmarTeam enables the user to define the number and type of objects and relationships required to manage multiple product structure views. The various views are then exposed to the user through the use of filters and cues.

While delivering item management and optimizing BOM management (BOM) across disciplines, ENOVIA SmarTeam helps customers achieve a true return on investment.
