Dassault Systèmes’ DELMIA UltraPaint Selected by Aerobotix to Reduce Lead Engineering Time and Improve Plant Floor Productivity
Robotic Simulation Tool Used  in Army Humvee Specialty Coating Applications

Dassault Systèmes’ DELMIA UltraPaint robotic solution has been selected for use at Aerobotix, Inc., in Huntsville, AL. Aerobotix, a robotic coating system integrator, will be using the solution to perform robotic paint path programming for a U.S. Army Humvee (HMMWV for High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle) depot level maintenance operation.

“Ours is a complex application that requires the development of numerous paint paths for the robotic coating system in order to apply primers and topcoats in both single-color and camouflage paint configurations,” says Daniel Sample, Aerobotix Robotics Engineer. “After analyzing various options, we determined the DELMIA UltraPaint software was the best solution to help us improve manufacturing quality, accuracy, and profitability.”

DELMIA UltraPaint is a physics-based, scalable robotic simulation solution for modeling and off-line programming of complex, multi-device robotic paint cells that comes with a complete set of painting simulation tools. Spray gun and paint attributes can be entered into the painting device and the results can be graphically displayed in multiple colors illustrating relative film thickness; or exact thickness can be obtained through the uses of a built-in film build gage. Complex paint booths can be constructed, and multiple robot moving line applications can be simulated.

Additionally, the Realistic Robotic Simulation™ (RRS) feature allows the UltraPaint software to interface with a robot manufacturer’s proprietary motion planning software (called a RCS module) to provide greater accuracy in the trajectory motion and cycle time prediction.

In this application, 3D models of multiple HMMWV variants were created and imported into the robotic workcell developed in UltraPaint. Each paint path program was created and simulated in the cell after considering the robots’ reachability and clearances. With the simulation capability, programs could be sequenced to avoid workspace conflicts and optimized to gain efficiencies. Overall, DELMIA UltraPaint is helping Aerobotix reduce lead engineering time and improve plant floor productivity.

Premiere Development Authoring Platform from Dassault Systèmes

Dassault Systèmes recently announced the release of 3DVIA MP, a comprehensive development platform with a realistic real-time rendering engine for PC and Xbox 360™. 3DVIA MP will significantly improve the game development process by quickly bringing ideas into reality and aiding developers in producing high-end, 3D multiplatform games. 3DVIA MP for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) and Web deployments will become available in the summer of 2008.

"3DVIA MP is an outstanding development engine that has given our team a collaborative work environment including low-level access for our programmers,” said Nicolas Gaume, CEO of Mimesis Republic game studio. “The designers have been able to get results in record time while maintaining triple-A visual quality.”

3DVIA MP strengthens and extends the philosophy and functionality of the Virtools 4 product line. Established in 1999, Virtools 4 technology, known for its unique behavioral engine, is the standard for game prototyping, casual games production and industrial applications, both online and offline. The all-new platform, 3DVIA MP complements the IP creation process and leverages its signature behavioral engine with the capacity to exploit the power of the Xbox 360 and PS3™ in production. 3DVIA MP provides a high-end, realistic real-time rendering engine, which serves as the native support for multi-core processing, advanced shaders and lighting, and the depth of a full multiplatform production framework, allowing larger teams to collaborate.

“3DVIA has taken into consideration studios’ needs when designing and developing games, especially those that work with large development teams in multiple locations,” said Bertrand Duplat, Virtools founder and CTO, 3DVIA, Dassault Systèmes. “Our new development engine encompasses the entire development cycle – from importing content to testing and debugging – maximizing publishers’ investments by allowing them to create content once, optimize it, and publish it across multiple platforms.”
