201: Usage of Legacy CATIA V4 Models in CATIA V5

Scott Pokriefka
INCAT

The concept of this presentation is to learn about viewing V4 data within a V5 environment, using existing V4 data in V5 models, building a new V5 model using V4 data concurrently, migration of V4 data into V5 format, and to identify and manage migration errors.

204: An Eight Point Plan to Template Development
Fred Karam

Productivity is a critical issue in product design as a result of shrinking development times and manpower resource. This issue is addressed through the use of associative design templates that integrate the boundaries between design knowledge and analytical simulation prototypes. These design templates embedded design, engineering, and manufacturing rules to capture key knowledge for reusability, repeatability, and scalability.

The templates are parametric models that define the default geometric data and topology of models. Templates are intended to be a generic representation of a mechanical system, such that a template that is common to a number of different applications can be reused in each of those design applications. Templates provide a quick way to experiment with different design intents and still retain the basic design components that are required. An eight point template development plan is reviewed during the course of this session, and listed below:

  1. Template Definition
  2. Template Planning
  3. Template Preparation Strategy
  4. Template Construction Methodologies
  5. Template Standardization
  6. Template Automation Options
  7. Template Robustness/Quality
  8. Template Deployment
