CATIA V5 Educators Communiqué
Are you coming to the ASEE Conference in Chicago?
CATIA and SMARTEAM will be front and center at the upcoming American Society of Engineering Educators (ASEE) Deans Conference in Chicago, June 18-21. As the show's lead sponsor, Dassault Systèmes will be presenting CATIA and SMARTEAM, along with other Dassault brands including DELMIA, SIMULIA and VIRTOOLS. If you are already planning to attend, please stop by the booth to meet the team, including representatives from Dassault, IBM and ENGINEERING.com.
The layout of the Dassault booth will allow visitors to interact with technology in a Discovery zone, and to speak with experts and other educators in the Learning and Innovation zones. For those of you have never attended, the annual ASEE conference provides a three-day forum for over 3,500 leaders in the field, including professors, deans, instructors and students to present their research and interact with their colleagues. (At least that's what the brochure said.)
CATIA V5 CAD Lab June 5-9
Instructors are already signing up for Richard Cozzens CAD Lab running from June 5-9. The 5 day course will run at Southern Utah University in Utah. The course will provide an introduction to teaching using CATIA V5 including a 2 day focus on curriculum development.
Fascinating side trips from this location include Zion National park, Bryce Canyon NP and the Grand Canyon. There is a fee for this course. Please contact the instructor, Richard Cozzens, (cozzens@suu.edu 435-586-7983) for more details and to register for this course.
A second week of instructor training is planned for the week of August 7-9 to be held at Thomas Nelson Community College in Virginia. Details will be published as they are made available. If you would like to volunteer your services for this week contact Maury Middleton (middletonm@tncc.edu 757-825-2982).
Instructors First
ENGINEERING.com has partnered with IBM, Dassault and Ascent to create the Instructors First outreach program. Features of the program allow instructors to have a free CATIA V5 license for use in home or office, free instructors manual, and discounts for students on CATIA V5 software and books. Contact David Livingstone at 905-273-9991 Ext 244 for more details.
Web Cast Demonstration for Educators
How are educators around the world making the most of CATIA V5 in the classroom? On Thursday April 20th Paul Silver and Andre Clemons from IBM joined David Livingstone from ENGINEERING.com in a web broadcast on that topic. Andre demonstrated the latest features in the new CATIA V5 to a large audience representing more than 20 academic institutions. Several creative instructors even set up projectors in their classrooms so that their students could participate.
These forward thinking educators are committed to ensuring that their students have the best possible education and career opportunities. Thanks to all who attended. Watch this space for future event announcements.
