Filter Field (V4):

When using the File+Open pull down menu, the Filter field allows you to filter both the Directories and the Files list (Model list). By default the Filter is set to */* (asterisk, slash, asterisk). The first asterisk filters the list of directories and the second asterisk filters the list of files (the slash separates the two and is always used). The asterisk is a wildcard, by default displaying everything. You can reduce the number of directories or files that are listed by entering a string in this field. However, the string you enter cannot stand-alone, it must include at least one asterisk (unless you enter the complete directory or file name). You must filter both the directory list and the file list, which means, the slash must always be used. If you don’t use the slash, the string you type in is used for the files list and an asterisk is automatically applied to the directory list. Depending on where the string appears in the name of the directory or file will depend on how you enter your filter. If it’s at the beginning try STRING*, in the middle *STRING* and if it’s at the end *STRING.

The next time you’re looking for a specific part number try */*12345*, this will list all directories and only the files which contain "12345" anywhere in the file name (model name). You can also type *12345* and it would return the same list (the system would add the */ to the beginning). You’re not limited to a single string, as in the FILE function. You can enter */*12345*CHGA*, this would list all files which contain "12345" and "CHGA" anywhere in the file name (model name).

Cursor Style (V4):

When shading your solids or skins that are the color white the default cursor disappears when it passes over the element. Changing the cursor shape from GRAPHIGS to ARROW under Tools+Management+Setting Up (/setup) will solve this problem.

Using CATIA V5, Part Design workbench

We have a Filleting tip that we classify under "Best Practices". Our tip is to maintain a short and organized specification tree. This makes it much easier to make changes and understand the design intent. Click here for a graphical representation of our tip.
