Want to use Native Pro/ENGINEER Files in CATIA V5?

As designers and manufacturers extend their design capabilities through outsourcing, partnerships, and consolidations, they increasingly face the challenge of needing to leverage legacy CAD data and communicate across multiple CAD platforms. Often, they will try the neutral file translators (IGES and STEP) that are built into most CAD systems. However, these additional steps take time and open the possibility to data loss.

Rather than exporting IGES or STEP files from Pro/ENGINEER, or bothering someone else to take the time to convert them, many companies have decided to use the MultiCAx - PD Plug-in Product (PDL): Pro/ENGINEER Plug-in available for CATIA V5. This provides the ability to easily handle proprietary data from Pro/ENGINEER in order to enable design in-context, visualize a digital mockup and support the management of product structures that include foreign CAD data in CATIA V5. Further, in those cases where customers have an investment in Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/INTRALINK, access to these files can be automated by implementing RAND's iExchange product which links the data in Pro/INTRLINK to SMARTEAM. This will enable users to streamline the use of legacy data in CATIA V5 and provide the extended benefits that SMARTEAM brings while protecting existing investments and providing a smooth migration to PLM.
