COE 2001 Fall Conference a Hit!

The COE 2001 Fall Conference & TechniFair, the largest international event dedicated to the CATIA®, ENOVIA® and DELMIA® user community, attracted more than 800 attendees to Orlando from September 30-October 3.

General Sessions
This event was chock-full of general, training, and breakout sessions with valuable lessons learned and thoughts exchanged, as well as a rare insider look into the future of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) offerings from Dassault Systemes and IBM. Speakers and teachers from diverse industries including automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, plant design, electrical and electronics, fabrication and assembly, industrial machinery, plant design/AEC, sales and marketing, and shipbuilding presented at the conference. Dassault Systemes President Bernard Charles spoke at the first general session on achieving a competitive advantage through accelerating innovation. IBM's general manager of PLM, Ed Petrozelli was present at the conference discussing many of the strategic issues with the attendees. Klaus Schaefer, responsible for IBM PLM in Europe, Asia and Africa provided a presentation looking into where IBM PLM and where it is headed.

Breakout Sessions
Conference-goers were treated to user presentations, demonstrations, and success stories from Dassault Systemes/IBM customers, industry analysts, and academic institutions including Boeing, Cessna Aircraft, Compaq, DaimlerChrysler, D.H. Brown Associates, Newport News Shipbuilding, P&H Mining, Purdue University, and Southern Utah University. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in more than 100 of these breakout sessions organized by the Process Interest Committees (PICs). They were a "hot spot" at the show.

Training Sessions
Training sessions focused on topics revolving around CATIA V5, both V4 and V5 coexistence and effective migration to V5, as well as how a company can optimize its use of the software, along with other products including DMU, SMARTEAM, and DELMIA. Attention was also paid to optimizing the use of all the Dassault Systemes products in small, medium, and large enterprises.

DPC Sessions
Another returning feature to COE was the Development Planning Council (DPC) sessions, where users communicated enhancement requests to Dassault Systemes and IBM. In the DPC strategy meetings, the present and future direction of products are revealed; participants then examine the product plans and make enhancement requests.

TechniFair
In addition to the unique educational opportunities available at the conference, attendees were able to visit and chat with nearly 40 vendors at 50 booths in the COE TechniFair.

Networking
And no COE Conference experience would be complete without the many planned and informal networking opportunities, where attendees mingled with their peers in relaxed social settings, like conference lunches and refreshment breaks and the TechniBash reception in the TechniFair.

Mark your calendar now for the COE 2002 Spring Conference & TechniFair, which will take place in Palm Spring, California, from April 14-17. Stay tuned to www.coe.org for details on the Spring Conference, as well as photos of the Fall Conference attendees in action in Orlando.

COE Announces New Member of the Board of Directors

This year, two COE Board of Directors members terms expired, and at the recent COE 2001 Fall Conference & TechniFair, COE voting members voted to re-elect Steve Lynn, IBM, to the board. And Scott Baker, DaimlerChrysler, was elected as the newest member of the COE Board of Directors, replacing Sohair VarnHagen, DaimlerChrysler, who did not run for re-election. Congratulations to Steve and Scott!

Optimize your Designs Using CATIA Engineering Analysis
By Rodney Dreisbach, Boeing, co-manager of the Product-Definition PIC Division and co-chair of the Engineering Analysis & Simulation PIC Committee

The Engineering Analysis and Simulation Process Interest Committee (PIC) is proud to announce a "hands-on" breakout session for the COE 2002 Spring Conference, which will be held in Palm Springs, April 14-17, 2002. This session will introduce the attendees to V5 Knowledge-Based CATIA Analysis and new techniques for designing and optimizing V5 CATIA models. During this session, the tools available for optimizing designs and reducing manufacturing costs, without compromising the strength or performance of the product design, will be discussed.

Here is the outline of the session, which will be presented by Murray Smith and Ahmad Parvez, SRAC:

  • Part 1: Your own models, as previously submitted to Parvez, will be loaded and ready for your use during the session (if you are unable to send or bring your own parts, working models will be provided as a convenience)
  • Part 2: Work with one of IBM or SRAC experts to get immediate results for displacements, stress, and vibration analyses
  • Part 3: Copy or save the analysis results and take them home with you

Anyone who is planning to attend the Spring COE Conference is encouraged to submit their real-life V4 or V5 CATIA models and see the power and ease-of-use that CATIA V5 engineering analysis provides. Participants should send their models, at their earliest convenience, to Ahmad Parvez at parvez@srac.com or call him at 330-670-6575. When submitting your models, please note the model format within the package. Participants of this "hands-on" session will find it to be a fun experience, and more importantly, they will obtain meaningful results.
