March/April President's Letter

Welcome to Spring! I hope you are digging out of what was, for some, a record year of snow and cold temperatures. I won't go in to details about the weather in my home town, as you may not read the rest of this blog as a result!

Thanks to a tremendous response by you, our members, the content for this year's event in Charleston led your Board of Directors to expand the conference back to the four day event it was in most of the first 20 years of our existence.

We already have numerous discussion forums on our web site that focus on other Dassault Systèmes brands, DELMIA and ENOVIA, in particular. These forums usually include a "CATIA" perspective, especially the DELMIA discussions focused on CATIA NC. The 2015 event will all of us to continue this discussion in a face-to-face environment. In addition, Dassault Systèmes is working to also provide additional content from both users and product managers of the SIMULIA brand, both this year and in future years. While COE has had ENOVIA, DELMIA, and SIMULIA listed as part of our tagline for many years (Bringing together the users of Dassault Systèmes PLM Solutions - CATIA ®, ENOVIA ®, DELMIA ®, SIMULIA ®), my hope is that this expansion in our coverage in 2015 will bring in new members, new ideas, and new opportunities to learn and share how to better utilize the DS tools we all own, both next month, and year round.

It is also interesting to note that Dassault Systèmes has reorganized their North American market, now including Mexico with Canada and the United States as part of the North American "geography". While this helps DS streamline the sales for companies with operations in Mexico, and will likely have little or no impact on COE or our members in the near term, it does create an entire country of possible future COE members as well. It is not expected that we will see any difference at the event in April due to this change. I do think this means if your company has operations in Mexico, or suppliers using DS products in Mexico, you should let them know that they are welcome and encouraged to become COE members and share how to deliver results using the DS products. (We may need to look at getting a Spanish-speaking moderator for the forums on COE.org as well, to support the use of our year-round community by these potential new members).

Annual COE membership reminders have been going out for the last couple months. If your company has not renewed, even if you are not the individual that processes the membership renewal, you will still receive reminders so you can be sure your access to the private sections of our web site, access to Ask the Experts, and ability to register for the Annual Experience in Charleston does not lapse. Since the person responsible for renewal is your company's voting representative, if they will not be coming to Charleston, please make an effort to obtain a voting proxy so your company will be allowed a vote in the business meeting at Noon on Tuesday, April 28.

Finally, I am sure many of you will be happy to hear that the average temperature in Charleston April 26-30 is historically 75 degrees. That may be one of the reasons that Charleston was voted by the readers of Conde Nast and Travel + Leisure magazines as "the number ONE destination to visit in the US" for the fourth year in a row in 2014. Great weather, rich history, and superb dining is available. I know I am looking forward to a bigger and better Experience and Technifair in April, and hope to see all of you, and your friends and colleagues, at the Charleston Convention Center in a little over 5 weeks!
