For decades engineering has been making the transition from 2D drawings to full fidelity computer models of their products, and likewise from physical prototyping to digital prototyping. The promise has always been shortened design cycles and higher performance products but there are still many bottlenecks which require long periods of time and physical prototypes to overcome. The next revolution is in creating fully functional digital twins of the products which are being manufactured, allowing for a truly multidisciplinary digital prototyping process. To achieve this paradigm shift requires many individual technologies to come together in a seamless way. The mathematical models must be accurate and quick to run, the sensors attached to real world hardware must deliver data in real time to those models, and the entire system must give useful insights to the end user. This talk will discuss current and future solutions to mathematical modeling of such a system using a combination of software tools.
