Grid-Based Approach for Composite Part Design in CATIA

CATIA’s Composite Part Design (CPD) workbench has an industry-leading suite of tools for the design of laminated composite parts. This session focuses on the Grid-Based design methodology now implemented in the CPD workbench.
The Grid-Based design method is a breakthrough technology enabling the fastest and most efficient design of large and complex structures, such as fuselage barrels, wing panels, boat hulls, in context of their mating sub-structures. Dedicated features are available for automatic generation of grid cells, accounting for staggering and clearance constraints, and importing stress inputs. Powerful ply modification features are also implemented for further tailoring the design by optimizing the drop-offs and ply shapes, re-routing plies along a preferred path, easily modifying sections of local drop-offs.
This hands-on session will demonstrate an interactive exercise in design of an aerospace composite panel. Each attendee will receive a handout containing the steps performed during the exercise
