Convert Entire Assembly to CGR files

Hi all,

Is anyone out there working with assemblies that are pure cgr files? And not just cached files.

What I'm looking for is a way of converting all of the components in an assembly (while maintaining assembly structure). The cgr files must be disassociated from the original solids such that the solids may be deleted.

The purpose for this is to make a relatively dumb model that is extremely small but yet can still be measure (aprox) and have its components moved or hidden.

I use cache mode frequently but, as far as I can tell, this requires that the original part files be kept. I have found the cgr files generated for the cache mode which are stored in the documents and settings folder but they are placed in a strange assembly structure.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Roger James

Why don't you save the whole assembly as 3Dxml?
It is small and has an assembly structure. Different from cgr, you can open the file directly in CATIA.

Interesting.... I've thought about 3Dxml in the past but didn't think it was available in V5R14 but I could be mistaken.

Do you know which version it is available in? R16 might still work for us since our customers (automotive) will probably be moving to R16 in the next few months.

Do you know if you can:
* Measure the model?
* Move individual components in the 3Dxml?
* Control visibility of individual components?

Thanks!

Roger

3DXML starts in R15.  But... you cant measure,  must be a product and no drawings

You can control visibility (hide - show) but cant move individual parts or sub-assemblies.

If you have a DMU Navigator license, you can use SAVE AS FROZEN. It's on the tools pull-down menu, under DMU DATA FLOW.

you can also use Tools-->Utility-->CATDMUBuilder option to have cgrs.

Thanks Guys!

Both of the DMU methods are just what I was looking for! I wish I had posted this question much earlier. I've been looking for this for a while now. Using these methods, I was able to take a 350mb file and reduce it down to 13mb. This is just the ticket!

Thanks again!!
