It would be nice to have a gouge report- sort of like "auto-diff" in Vericut- right in Catia video simulation.
1) Gouge amount
2)MO responsible for gouge
3)excess stock amount
4)MO responsible for excess

All this along with the visual "colors" when selecting "analyze" in video simulation.

I notice that most of the major CAM systems get there video simulation (Catia included, I believe) from the same company- hence none of them have this.

I think this would remove the necessity for Vericut for most jobs- especially if this was something accurate and trustworthy.

I really doubt that Catia Machine simulation will EVER be a competitive choice for most shops/programmers. I know that I wouldn't even consider spending $11,000 + $15,000 or so for ICAM plus the C.E. builder, + another $15,000 for Catia machine builder and another $15,000 for NC machine simulation. I forget the exact numbers. I have gotten quotes for all of this, and when all was said and done it was close to $60,000 and didn't even include the ability to create great set-up, tool-list, or inspection reports, AUTO-DIFF reports, and OPTIPATH!!!

So seriously, who would ever spend the money on Catia machine simulation. Ummm...someone who just likes to throw money away on an inferiour product?

Catia has a LONGGGG way to go before NC machine simulation is worth even considering.

My 2 cents, since this is a closed forum...

Make it faster, even the video replay is slower than Vericut on big surfacing toolpaths, never mind the Machine Simulation which can be like watching paint dry.

I can fire up Vericut, get it running in the background. Then get back to Catia to do some more programming, or go online and watch that angry German kid on you-tube again faster than Catia can do a video replay.

And Vericut will give me more info, more options, and v6.1 doesn't even crash any more.

I haven't used the machine sim for a while, as I changed jobs and no longer have it. So maybe its got faster..

But the video replay hasn't, it does the job for short toolpaths OK. But throw a long surface toolpath at it, and it seems to fall asleep.

Cheers.

Thanks for the head up, Simon
My boo boo
My frinds at COE fixed it

And move the machine, not the part when I click 'show machine' when selecting a tool axis.

Your zoomed in close to your part looking for the best tool axis.

You click 'show tool' and select a user defined position to get a better idea of what's going on, all looks good.

So you click 'show machine' to check the head clears, and you end up looking at fresh air! Because the machine table moves taking the part with it.

So now you have to zoom out, re-centre the part, zoom in again. And then the same thing happens again when you OK the selection. This can get very tiresome when trying to do an interpolated Multi-Axis Curve Machining toolpath.

Maybe it would be good to have a choice- like in Vericut where you can choose machine or workpiece view...that sounds like what you want.

I don't actually care about this much, because I only consider Catia's video replay a visual aid tool. I don't really even use it much because it can't be trusted to tell the truth unless you make the settings so fine that it just bogs the computer even more. It's best, for now, to use other systems to verify on a second monitor or computer. I think...

More like Vericuts 'View \ attach component' option.

As when you use 'proper' catia machine in your part operations. Everything sits at the machine home position, until you choose 'show machine' when selecting a tool angle or a interpolation angle.

Then the machine moves to the actual machining position. No problem on a machine with a fixed table. But if the table is one of your axis, the part disappears from your field of view if your zoomed in close.

Cheers.
