under cutting tool

under cutting tool
I did a search but couldn't find what what I was looking for. I got a part I finally need to use a lollipop cutter on. I defined the t-slotter and it worked great for my isoparametric sTuff, but when I went to MAFC it was not a choice, so I tapermill, but it not working when I define it. I can't get the (l) to a value lesser then .004, so now the iso stuff wont work. What is the best way to define a lollipop and get to use multi curve and flank contouring and still have the ability for the isoparametric stuff to work on the walls where undercutting needed ? thankyou for any assistance

I did try making a user representation also and having no luck with the undercutting walls.

Hi Justin,

In some cases you can workaround by forcing the MO to accept certain cutters like many people do it all the time for failsafe motions for taps, reamers etc
I do it lot for AptImport too.

I hope somebody brought it up at Coe2011 because this has been discussed many times here on the forum
All MOs with more choices of cutters

Until then wait for enhancements

How does a person go about forcing a MO to use a cutter it doesn't really want to use?  If this has been covered somewhere else just point me in the direction.  Thanks.

Hi Dave,

I'll try to post a small video clip demonstrating how to force change the tool type for any given MO.

For example:
Use Facemill with Roughing MO
Use T-Slotter with MAFC MO
Use Tap, Reamer, ThreadMill with Profile Contouring MO
etc...

Best Regards,
Samarinder

Samarinder,

That would be great.  I never understood why I couldn't use a T-Slot cutter or face mill with MAFC.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

I'll post the video clip over this weekend showing this workaround. Stay tuned.

I hope DS doesn't kill this workaround if I show it here. Once I was able to cut open contour with "Helix" toolpath style in Profile Contouring MO. After R18sp4 it was fixed and you can't use it anymore.

I think this would be a good enhancement to allow more cutter types for most MOs.

Samarinder

Hey there Justin,  Dave King,

At the COE 2011 conference, we saw new functionality where the top of a t-cutter was machining a overhanging surface. 5-axis !!.  Now this was in V6.

This was one of many enhancements. Looks like our friends at Dassault have been busy during the off season.

Best Regards,

Dave

thankyou for the inforamtion fellas. I got my problem resolved by messing with the angle option on the conical cutter and it started working. All my MO's did what they want. Went to lunch with a couple programmers that day and they got me lined out. I did have issues with the catv not building my cutter properly, I have switched from 711 to 712, not sure if that will fix the issues or not. I was on the 3ds website lastnite and was looking at all the videos on delmia and V6 is looking awesome for sure. I'm starting to get pumped for it. Looks like there is some hard metals toolpaths? I take it will be similar to mastercams dynamic milling that they are developing with iscar brand tools. The future is looking very promising for sure with catia, I'm glad I made the switch

I just thought I let you know

Cutting with top of t-cutter is not new. I have demonstrated here in one of my older posts about 3-4 years ago using Catia V5.

Zac,

I am very busy at the moment, but I'll definitely make the video clip and upload it soon.

Samarinder, is this workaround you mentioned (9 years ago lol) still working and did you upload anything describing it? This is a PITA. I want to use deep hole or chip breaking MO's with a counterbore tool definition...
