Here is the Top Ten list, Feedback please.

Hi Fellow NC programmers,

Please find this year’s top ten

I provide this well enough in advance, so COE members can give feedback, and all the topics are understood by Dassault, so they can respond at the COE annual conference. Sometimes the response is not understood, or need more info.. and we don’t want that to happen at the conference.

This year is critical…. in my humble opinion … for DS to deliver meaningful NC enhancements.  Many users confide in me, and have posted on this COE Forum…. frustration about little or nothing for V5, and critical requirements are unanswered.  Philippe Girodengo and Bruno Tacci answered the premature funeral of V5 well, with the latest Ask the expert Webinar. V5-6R2015 has some valuable enhancements for V5

Goals for the next 12 months:   What will make a difference daily?

What COE leadership has always tried to with the top ten…. Is to suggest to Dassault what they should be working on NOW.  We have all the enhancements COE members have brought up on the forum in a spread sheet, and to focus on the ones most urgent….is actually easier than one might think.  All you need to do is program, and keep track of where you feel you lose the most time in areas where a change in the GUI will make the most difference.

The Next Big Thing.

While we emphasize on Small But Important topics this year, COE is challenged to provide ideas that are substantial.  We hope to achieve that with Top Ten #1 improper cutting methods detection. Please take a look.

Quantity is very important

There is a very popular book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus……. that has an interesting lesson about relationships. As the lesson goes, if a husband buys his wife a new luxury car, he gets one point. If he brings home roses, he gets the same one point.  Now…..If he brings home roses once a week, he gets 52 points.  So the husband may think an new Mercedes will return happiness and appreciation for 365 days, but the weekly roses will actually keep the wife happy day in and day out.

Best Regards

RE: Here is the Top Ten list, Feedback please.
(in response to Dave Frank)

Review of Top Tens, with a power user.

I met with Bryan Felsher last Tuesday evening after attending the Vericut one day training seminar. We reviewed the Top Tens for 2013, 2014, and 2015 with together in detail. Also, we reviewed the low lying fruit small but important PowerPoint.

His comments slide after slide was informative to me as to how important and pertinent each one was.  I felt very satisfied that I achieved the goal of creating Top Tens that would make a difference for not just myself but all our fellow NC programmers.  Easy stuff that Dassault should be able to do quickly, and do in V5 to support the customer.

We all have an equal voice, but sometimes; it helps to have the backing of people with a decade or more of day to day use to add credibility to the ….necessity of getting this improvement into Catia NC workbench.

As we reviewed slides, I had an out of Body experience. As Bryan would say things like:  “this is annoying”  ‘I wish they would do this”  “Yeah this is so lame” and “These enhancements would make me money”   I thought …… I wish were taping this discussion so we could share it with the users.  He also shared his workarounds on many topics.

No promises, but I am working on duplicating this discussion with a little added value, in an Ask The Expert session. This should be very good for the users. We can see how multiple users have “shared options” of the impact on small improvement can make in daily programming.  And what are the priorities.

Best Regards

Dave
