COE/Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Machining Webinar Series

Hi Fellow NC programmers,

This is a great .....free training series for seeing basic and advanced tasks "How to" on  V6 / 3DExperience

We did several COE university sessions on 3DX ...but DS and COE recognize not every COE member gets to go to the annual conference.

Thanks to our friends at Dassault and COE for putting this series togeather.

If you take a look at the schedule.... this covers a complete set of topics.

COE/Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Machining Webinar Series

Presented by: NC Kishore, Senior Portfolio Technical Specialist; Mark Griffin, Senior Technical Sales Consultant; Larry Paulsen, Senior Solution Architect

COE, along with Dassault Systèmes, is excited to offer an extended 3DEXPERIENCE Machining Webinar series for all COE members.

Webinar series attendees will be given free access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and machining apps until the webinar series concludes. Each session will be 2 hours long on the last Thursday of the month followed by a month long recess time so that users have enough time to utilize and test their 3DEXPERIENCE skills based on what was learned in the most recent webinar.

The first webinar in this series will be:

3DEXPERIENCE Basics

Thursday, June 30, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m EDT

This 3DEXP Basis session will get you your passport to the platform Attendees will learn what roles and collaborative spaces mean, how to navigate through the various Machining apps, the fundamentals of the 3DEXP platform by loading, saving, searching (quick search) data on the platform, and will experience the 3DEXP GUI for machining and get familiar with some terminologies new in 3DEXP.

RE: COE/Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Machining Webinar Series
(in response to Dave Frank)

Today's webinar was very informative. NC explained it pretty good and had he got more questions he would have definitely answered all of them. Here is what I wrote some notes/questions when watching this first webinar.

Catia V5 Import
There is a main issue for importing Catia V5 catprocess file with multiple part operations defined with the same Manufacturing product. Is there any option to deal with such V5 catprocess files?
Can I get this sample files displayed in your session for the mill-turn? I would like to program it in V5 for then use it for import task.

Bottom Tool-bar: I would like to have option to place it entirely on the top side. It is like you are driving your car and have all the controls in such places which take away your focus from the road ahead of you. I know Action Pad is available but I think it would way too much of customization by placing entire workbench's commands in it.

Also when NC accidentally clicked on the tree it took him out of the geometry viewer. For this reason why don't we have this damn tree have its own window. Is there any option to turn off (zoom in and out) for the ppr-trees, sub-trees through out the 3dex and V5 apps/workbenches?

Hi NC, I do not have access to Delmia Machining SWYM site. People change companies and lose access to the SWYM since the login ID is tied with company they work at. It would be nice if SWYM ID works in a similar way as in COE website? So by the time user changes 4 companies he/she would end up having 4 IDs and so on.

Slide-21
3dex Machining bundles/NC-programmer roles don't have NC-Geometry creation functionality you have in V5 such as Part-Design, GSD, etc... Or is geometry-creation functionality still there somewhere hidden these new 3DEx NC-programmer roles?

Regards,
Samarinder Singh

For those not yet subscribed to this series.. I want to explane the best part.

......"Webinar series attendees will be given free access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and machining apps until the webinar series concludes".........

Free access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform... Means you get to run 3dx, or the upgrade to V6... at not cost.... using the Dassault CLOUD Server.

and machining apps  are basicly MO's and Workbenches.   Instead of checking out an AL2 license, you get a bunch of NC apps for profile contouring, or Power Machining, or Part design, ... very similar to tools options license and shareables.

until the webinar series concludes....   So you get free access to test drive 3DX until late in the year.

Dave , The invite links should have gotten out to all registered members for the webinar last thursday evening after the webinar. Have you registered to the webinar ? You will have to then accept the invitation first and then there will be a cloud link that the system will send back automatically. So please accept the invite that was sent via DS email.

RE: COE/Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE Machining Webinar Series
(in response to Samarinder Singh)

Samarinder , thanks for your post . I will try to respond to your points

- CATProcess with multiple POs.pointing to the same Mfg Product. Its a known issue, but will come back after I check with RnD on this one.

- Sample Mill-turn data shown was on 3DEXP. So I can post the 3dxml. You can import that into your cloud environment.  But if you want to build that in V5 and then import it, there are things that you need to be aware of during import of V5 data into 3DEXP. We will go into some of the import basics in next session and then you can experiment and import things yourself.

- Action pad is a way to pick and choose the most frequently used functions for the programmer. It is not expected to put the entire tool bar on action pad. Yes, as you say it is like in a car.. to make changes you have to look down in both cases :-). as a matter of fact, there is an DS ergonomics team of scientists that analyze the GUI for least strain to the user and they continuosly work on improving the experience.

- The tree can be on a window of its own. It can be undocked and moved to a different monitor if you prefer to.

- It is a easy search and click  to send a login request. It comes to me directly and I accept it almost instantly. For now SWYM is set up that way. But suggestions will be noted and pushed to RnD. But you can still access SWYM with your old email and ID to login.

- Slide 21 - The DME is all CATIA design bundle. It has Part Design GSD etc to create geomtry etc. Perhaps you missed this part during the webinar.

All 3DEXP Machining Webinar members,

Please following these 2 steps below to get through to the cloud. Please use 'Create a New 3DPassport' and register with the same email ID that you used to register for the machining webinar series and follow the prompt. For those that were on the top-gun program, please be informed that it has been concluded and those collab spaces will not exist anymore. In other words, your top-gun logins will NOT work for the Machining webinar series.

Launching your 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

1.The 3DEXPERIENCE Platform requires a 3DPassport account:

2. After you sign in, you will be taken to the 3DDashboard app, the door to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and your apps. Your apps can be accessed and installed (if necessary) from the Compass in top left corner of the screen. You will receive another email with a reusable link to the 3DDashboard app after you sign in. We recommend that you bookmark that link in your browser.

I'm having a couple of issues with getting things to work.  On one computer the anti-virus is locking the hosts file so when it tries to install the 3DEXPERIENCELauncher it hangs when it can't write to the file.  So I found a way to get the hosts file edited with what needs to go in there but the problem remains because in order to install the launcher it needs to write to the file.

Also, when I do open the dashboard I don't get one that looks like the one in the video.  It looks a lot like it but when I hover over my name and select Preferences, all I get is a window wanting me to choose a language.  I don't get anything that resembles the Tools > Options panel from V5.

Is there a way around the first problem so I can at least launch the apps?

Hello Dave

Was this working before and now its not ? Had you installed the apps before? From you frst point, it seems you have not installed the launcher, meaning you will not be able to download and install the software. But your second point says, you are able to click on preference which means you have installed the code and launched it too. and you are not seeing apps or perefences etc ?

So the issues isnt clear to me.

Also, Dashboard is a web client and sure the preference on web client will show only languages. We must be using preferences on the thick client which is the DEMIA apps.

The Anti-Virus, can you turn it OFF ? and try to install again ?

NC,

I have been able to launch the software and have "My First Dashboard" showing.  When I hover over my name a pulldown comes down with some choices.  One of the choices is Preferences.  When I select preferences I get what is shown in the attached picture.  I don't get anything like the V5 Tools > Options which is what I saw in the video.  So I have it up and running, but it doesn't look the same as it does in the video.

The other problem is that I cannot launch any of the apps because I cannot install the launcher, due to the fact that our anti-virus is locking the hosts file.  Someone suggested I edit the file with the appropriate content and that would solve the problem.  I was able to do that but when I try to launch an app it wants to install the launcher and it stops again when it cannot write to the hosts file.  So even though the entries are in the hosts file it gets stuck and I end up in this loop of not being able to launch apps and not being able to install the app launching software.

I dont think there a way around getting the launcher to install the apps. Please check with your IT if they can register this as a NON-virus app install on the Anti-Virus software blocks thats stopping the launcher to install apps.

NC,

I have finally got everything to work.  I even created a small part.  When I wanted to save the file I didn't see how to do that.  I clicked the X on the tap and it asked if I wanted to save the file and somewhere along the lines it asked me for a name.  This morning I can't see the file and re-open it with Part Design Essentials.  I have 2 questions.

1. How do you open an existing file, and where do you find them?

2. How do I open an existing V5 .CATPart?

Thanks...

Dave,

To Save : Just hit "Ctrl + S". or click on the REDO kind of looking arrow on the top right next to the HOME button. On the pull down you can also click on the small "Greater than" sign to get more options.

1. An existing file is on the cloud database. When you launch the app, you log into this database by default. To open this file you need search with the name  you saved it as or better yet, simply filter out by selecting "My Content" on the search area on the top blue strip. Just click on the search area and you will get a pull down where you will get "My Content" option. This is actually on the 3DEXP Basics recording. Please feel free to refer to it.

2. I think you mean importing an existing V5 CATPart into 3DEXP ? Clikc on the '+' sign on top right corner and select the small arrow to the right on the pull down menu. That will give you the option to select a V5 document. Again this covered in 3DEXP Basics recording. Below  is the link  for your quick access

http://www.coe.org/p/do/sd/sid=1917&type=0

ALL WEBINAR ATTENDEES : PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CLICK ON BUTTONS AND TRY IT YOURSELF. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL KNOW THAT IT WONT EXPLODE ON YOU ( LOL ) :-) :-)

Enjoy your weekend !!

Thanks...

NC,

I am unable to import a V5 file. When I select Import -> Catia file I receive the following error. "You are not allowed to do this operation. Contact your administrator". I was unable to complete all of the assignments after the first webinar because of this error.

Don, I see you have either imported or created a new part 8 days ago. Below is the picture. Is this the one ?  Please logout completely  and log back in and try again  to import another V5 part. Let me know this time.

I got that same error when I tried to import a V5 model also.  I was able to create one, and now know how to find and open it, but can't import.

Hmm could be the names

You know how you can make a new part and it gets a name ....part1?
Then you save it as 174pa1014-revB, but inside it still says part1?..... well if my memory serves me.... in V6 its one and the same.

Try to rename both inside and outside to part1_DonJ_7-22-2016A.... and see if that imports. I remember not being able to import named objects that already have that name.

Everything in the database must have a unique name. Authoring in the database... this happens automaticly with a name number generator
