V5-6R2019 setup fails

Hi all,

I'm experiencing a very odd behavior installing R2019 -- setup.exe just won't start, on startup just fires a small message box, the caption says "error" and the message just says "setup:", that's it. No explanation.

I'm running Win 10 64-bit.

Tried P3 media, P2, PLM express -- same result.

Tried installing from a DVD disc -- same result.

Tried turning OFF Windows Defender -- same result.

I have R21 through R2018 installed on my laptop, never seen that before. Tested install for the R2018 media again -- starts just fine.

Anyone has any idea what's going on?

Thanks, Iouri

Hello Iouri,

download sp1 and follow instruction inside FIXGA folder.

Thanks, Mauro, it helped.

I have to rant, though -- that was something I wouldn't expect from a reputable software company. I can hardly believe DS published media that wouldn't install.

Thanks again.

Where are we supposed to get our CATIA media these days. I have been pinging "dsxeco.3ds.com" for several months and there are no service packs showing up for R29 (V5-6R2019). I got an e-mail a while back that DS was launching a new site (3D Support App, starting 7/23) but when I went to create an account for CATIA media downloads it said it was not meant for CATIA. ??? Any thoughts?

Update the .net DS prerequistes files. and or the Mircrosoft Visual C++ redistributables

Do a search and you will find a few that tell you just which ones may be the offending ones.

Thanks, this is the information I needed. There are some files that need to be taken from SP1 and copied over your GA to get it to install properly. Here is the text from the SP1 ReadMe.txt:

- Problem installing GA Code on Windows if Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is installed
If Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is installed, the GUI GA Code installation with setup.exe and the silent installation with StartB.exe will fail.
Copy the GA media on a local disk
Replace the setup.exe and Startb.exe files of the GA Code media by the ones located in this folder FIXGA
Install Code in GUI mode or in silent mode

- Problem installing GA CAA Apis on Windows if Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is installed
If Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is installed, the GUI GA CAA Apis installation with startcaa.exe and the silent installation with StartCAAB.exe will fail.
Copy the GA CAA Apis media on a local disk
Replace the startcaa.exe and StartCAAB.exe files of the  GA CAA Apis media by the ones located in this folder FIXGA
Install CAA Apis media in GUI mode or in silent mode

- Problem installing GA CAA RADE V5 on Windows if Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is installed
   See Installing GA Code above

- Problem installing GA online Documentation on Windows if Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable is installed
As  setup.exe for online documentation media is 32 bits, see Readme.txt on SPK.intel_a media

I also have the same issue with V5-6R2019 P2. And the FIXGA folder doesn't help.

Have tried both V5-6R2019.SP1 and SP3.

Run Windows 10 Pro 64bit

setup: Problem with VC14 runtime installation.
Consult RedistVC14x86.log and RedistVC14x64.log filer under c:\users\....

Jonas, the only thing I can think of is that you are not following the procedure outlined by DS... you copy the files from the SP fixga directory into the install directory of the GA code on hard disk...

I'm getting the same error Jonas is getting after replacing the 2 files. Anyone else having this issue or have any advice?

Thanks

Gary, Have you put in a service request to DS? I wonder if there is another C redistributable now that is screwing things up?

Very strange!! Have tried with the fixGA folder from both servicepack SP2 and SP3 and replaced them with original ones and it doesn't help. I also tried to install P1 and P2 versions from Catia with the same bad result.

Have tried on different computers with upgraded level of C++.

The only thing left is .net. Which version does Catia ask for here?

How do you report a problem like this? Should you try through your Catia reseller?

Your post sounds like you are doing it backwards... you should be taking setup.exe from the fixga folder of the SP3 media & overwriting the setup.exe that came with GA.

Yes, try contacting your business partner,

Before running the CATIA GA installation media, uninstall the old version of VC14 Runtime from Control Panel.  It seems, when DS increments the version of these Runtime Prerequisites, they are not having the installation routine to check for and remove the previous version from the workstations.  The 2018 Installation media had a similar issue with VC11 Runtime.

Spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and eventually contacted DS support and they were able to help me get this ironed out. I wanted to update this thread in case anyone else ends up here through google. When I downloaded the install files there are 2 zip files. These zips both need to be extracted into the same directory(you will notice they share a similar folder structure.) Maybe this is standard practice for install CATIA V5 but it was not obvious to me. If you do not perform the extract correctly, and attempt to install using the correct setup.exe from the FIXGA folder, you will get the VC14 error as noted by Jonas.
