COE SPEAKER RESOURCE - PRESENTATION TIPS
Do you have any on-site presentation tips?

Sample Presentation Outline:

•    Content: 35-40 minutes
•    Questions and Answers: 10-15 minutes
•    Introduction (5 minutes)
          Company (1 -2 slides)
•    Your Presentation learning points (1 – 2 slides)
•    Learning Point 1 (3 – 5 slides) (8 – 10 minutes)
•    Learning Point 2 (3 – 5 Slides) (8– 10 minutes)
•    Learning Point 3 (3 – 5 slides) (8 – 10 minutes)
•    Conclusion (2 -3 slides) (5 minutes)
•    Summarize learning points and tell the audience where to find more information

Before Your Presentation:

•    Prior to your presentation time, determine the location of your session room. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the audiovisual equipment and review your session objectives.
•    Display the opening screen of the presentation template slide so that attendees can verify they are in the right session and familiarize themselves with your name.

Speaking Tips:

Keep your presentation focused on your key learning points. Attendees will become frustrated if your presentation deviates from the information provided in the program.

•    It is better not to read slides verbatim. Expand on the material
•    Watch your time. Set yourself 10 minute goals so you don’t end up with 10 slides to cover in 3 minutes.
•    Speak slowly and enunciate carefully.
•    Be positive, be enthusiastic, relax and have fun.

Power Point Slide Tips:

The most important guideline for any presentation is to keep it simple.  That means the visual material (slides) that you will present to attendees must be easy-to-follow as you proceed through each phase of your presentation.  The layout for each slide should be clear and not crowded with an abundance of detailed information.  This makes it easy for the attendee to listen to you and to follow the points you are making.

•    Use text sparingly
•    Wording should be clear and legible
•    Slide titles
•    Number of slides
•    Visually appealing
•    Colors
•    Alignment
•    Use headlines rather than sentences
•    Clarify with visual illustrations
•    Simplify complex ideas
•    Present one key point per slide
•    Min font size 20, 24 preferable
•    Choose art carefully
•    Raw data and details go in the Appendix
•    Never include more information on one slide than can be easily assimilated in 30 seconds or less.

Question and Answer Tips:

Please leave 10-15 minutes at the end of your presentation for questions.

•    When responding to questions from attendees, please repeat their questions.
•    Answer questions whenever possible, but don't let attendees lead you off-track.  Do not respond to differing views during your presentation; tell the person you will be glad to address their questions or concerns after the presentation.
•    If you will be available for questions and answers, or at other times throughout the conference, please announce the times you will be available, as well as where you can be reached.

After your presentation:

•    If you will be available for further questions and answers, please announce the times you will be available, as well as where you can be reached.
•    Remind the attendees to complete the session evaluation.
