2017 Discovery Panel

COE members gain invaluable hands-on training with 3DEXPERIENCE through the COE Discovery Panel. The panel provides an opportunity to engage the software fully — to understand better its functionality and service — without spending the time and resources to setup your own environment and obtain licenses.

The 2017 Discovery Panel, introduced at the COE 2017 Annual Experience & TechniFair in April, is taking a revised approach with a more focused effort and a smaller group of “discoverers,” inclusive of the following roles:

  • Analysis Engineer
  • Change Coordinator
  • Manufacturing Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Project Manager
  • Requirements Manager
  • Systems Engineer.

According to Greg Brock, manager, configuration management systems at GE Power, the goal of the 2017 Discovery Panel is to demonstrate and evaluate the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform through Dassault Systèmes Single Source for Speed industry experience. Single Source for Speed is a unique solution to engineer and produce fast, anywhere.

“We want to dig into the meat of the platform through a guided experience,” says Brock. “Now that Dassault Systèmes has organized into industries — industry experiences — the business process is laid out for you and provides a lot of structure. This will serve as a guide so we can focus on discovering the benefits of the unified data model on the platform.”

The panel will work on the project within the platform through incremental training. Phases of work include:

  • Ideation
  • Requirements
  • Mechanical Design
  • Analysis & Simulation
  • Mold & Tooling
  • Machining

During each segment, users will interact with the platform to manipulate and modify designs, analyze stress and performance, and learn to use new capabilities. Each segment will have entrance and exit criteria, and when completed, a recap will be shared in upcoming NewsNet articles and webinars to demonstrate what the panel did and describe benefits or challenges.

Brock expects each task to take approximately 4-6 weeks, five hours per week.

The 2017 Discovery Panel runs through December when the final results will be shared with the COE community. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at coe@coe.org.
