July/August President's Letter

It has been a while since my last blog (since I was still recovering from the Annual Experience and my vacation when the last issue came out, in addition to mourning the loss of the Anaheim Ducks in the conference finals to the champion Chicago Blackhawks!). From my travels and discussions with folks across the country, it appears that the US weather is still difficult - wet, but at least not cold during the summer! I hope your homes are all surviving the wild weather much of the country is experiencing this year.

The Annual Experience was a huge success again from my perspective. Thanks to all of you we had more content, more education, more networking, and more solutions to drive success at each of our companies. I thought the setting was excellent and the welcoming from Charleston made it obvious to me why it is such a popular destination. Next year's event looks to be even better, so be sure you mark your calendars for April 10-13, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas!

I wanted to remind everyone that the Call for Speakers is open for the 2016 event. To learn more or to submit your presentation, visit the 2016 submission page on the COE website. If you have questions, email speakers@coe.org for assistance.

As Dassault Systèmes continues to expand their portfolio and has stepped up their focus on delivering industry experiences, we are seeing a significant correlation between their updated strategy and our long-standing dual approach to both products and processes. The functionality we discuss both in the forums and at the conference are part of our Process committees, a direct tie-in to the industry experiences and our product committees are the brands that DS has had and added since their founding. In my view, products and processes are a direct match to brands and industry experiences; as such, I expect we will have new discussion forums to launch, and new knowledge to share year round through the COE.org web site.

In addition to these changes, many of you may have noticed that Ove Schuett, the Dassault Systèmes board member for the last few years, has finally been caught by the Dassault Systèmes reorganizations. Ove is now the Industry Executive for the Transportation & Mobility and Industrial Equipment industries within Dassault Systèmes North America. Because of this change in responsibility, Ove will no longer be able to serve as the Dassault Systèmes Board member. Ove has been a valuable member of the Board of Directors since joining us in 2012 and his expertise and assistance will be missed. To take Ove's place on the board, Bruno Latchague and Scott Berkey recognized that the 3D Experience focus on industries calls for a broader viewpoint, so they did not want to nominate an individual from within a Brand (CATIA). Many of you will know the individual they have selected, as she has worked in multiple industries and with many member companies in the approximately 15 years she has been a Dassault Systèmes employee. Our Board of Directors received this nomination last week, and was able to discuss and approve her nomination at our last Board meeting. So, without further ado -

Please welcome Tracey Wade, Technical Sales Director of Dassault Systèmes to our Board of Directors as the board representative!

Finally, those of you that were in attendance during the wrap-up of the COE Annual Experience and Technifair on April 30 were able to hear my charge to action, which I will now reiterate here. As I expect that everyone that attends the event is receiving value from your attendance, my challenge to all of you is - bring someone new next year. Just one person, whether from your company, a former employer, a neighbor that is in the industry, a friend, or someone you met at a business networking event. Bring one person to the event in San Antonio that has never attended a COE event! Our organization (COE does not belong to the Board of Directors - COE is our organization!) is strong, but we can all benefit from growth of the organization. COE growth can be directly tied to attendance at the Annual Experience. So my challenge is issued so we can build our knowledge base, expand our horizons and drive even more success into all of our own companies!
