More to Know of COE: Featuring Garth Coleman, VP Marketing ENOVIA, Dassault Systèmes

With more years of collective industry experience than can be counted, COE is the place for users of all Dassault Systèmes solutions to share experiences, continue learning and influence the future of Dassault Systèmes solutions. This month we spoke with Garth Coleman, VP of Marketing for ENOVIA.

Garth Coleman began working at Dassault Systèmes in October 2007, after the company acquired a French startup called Seemage. Today, he is the Vice President of Marketing for ENOVIA, where he oversees the department and its main functions. These include: offer marketing, to produce compelling content and information for prospective ENOVIA customers; user advocacy, which gives users a voice into the company to ensure they have the information needed to succeed; and communications and portfolio marketing, to enhance the ENOVIA brand, build educational presentations for prospective users and work with analysts to ensure they know the latest about ENOVIA. All of this is done to help ensure people in COE and beyond are using ENOVIA to the best of its abilities.

Garth is a recognized expert in areas of CAD, PDM and PLM, with a deep understanding of cloud, change management, 3D visualization, and immersive virtual reality technologies. He received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering & Society while at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and a MBA focusing on Entrepreneurship while at Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts.

We spoke with Garth on what excites him about ENOVIA, his thoughts on how the product can help companies shape the future of their industry and more.

What excites you about working with ENOVIA?

Although many people wouldn’t put “PLM” and “exciting” in the same sentence, the sheer scope of the ways we can help companies makes my job very interesting, particularly when it comes to our ability to digitally transform so many different areas of a company—from technical and engineering domains to project management, quality, and throughout the product lifecycle.

I love hearing from so many of our customers and champions, learning how they have helped change their companies for the better, and the incredible gains they have made in improving productivity, innovation, managing complexity, securing IP and more.

The latest ENOVIA release on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides incredible new features to better connect existing CAD systems, to reveal the intellectual property into the business environment, and to discover new next-generation “model-based” technologies. And all of this is done without making any changes to the core mechanical CAD system. We will be bringing some very exciting news to the COE 2018 Annual Experience & TechniFair this year, with many sessions around this topic and its new capabilities.

Given all of these successes, and ongoing evolutions to the portfolio, it makes for a challenging and exciting job to help ensure everyone is informed of the powerful ways ENOVIA can improve their businesses.

How do ENOVIA products streamline or improve people’s work?

Generally speaking, ENOVIA enables everyone to connect around a common and holistic digital product definition, to collaborate and share their ideas. This can all be done while managing interactions and ongoing changes. It is so much more than managing files, access permissions and bills of materials.

ENOVIA and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform are managing the full digital definition of a company’s products and services, with some new killer web-based apps that we are introducing at the COE Annual Experience this year. One example: imagine saving your CATIA V5 data to the cloud and enabling your key stakeholders—wherever they may be, whenever they wish, on whatever device they use—to participate in a 3D-based design review through nothing more than a web browser. Imagine, as well, having those interactions immediately and directly tied into task and change management activities, without requiring any files whatsoever! It is a remarkable feat and we can’t wait for users to get access to these new capabilities.

Is there anything on the horizon that COE members should be aware of?

I hope many users are able to attend the COE Annual Experience, because we have a LOT to announce and share this year. We are also planning a series of user webinars starting in May, our “ENOVIA to the MAX” series. These will not only highlight the new roles and apps, but help users understand how to best use them in their everyday work, as well.

In June, we will be in Boston for Science in the Age of Experience and DS hosts our 3DEXPERIENCE Forum that same week. Local users events are also being planned, so stay tuned with us online at www.3ds.one/euc.

How do you see products like ENOVIA shaping the future of the industry?

The needs of the many industries we serve are changing dramatically. From smart, connected products to mass customization and personalization at the cost of mass production, there are demands for superior agility amidst increasing complexity and risk. On top of that, you have to factor in new technologies such as IoT, additive manufacturing, cloud, big data, and analytics. PLM and the management of electronic information is critical, but that alone is not enough to solve these challenges.

A platform approach is needed, where PLM Collaboration Services are available, but also a way for all contributors to participate in developing, refining, validating, and releasing their products. This requires roles and apps dedicated to the person and the task at hand, allowing them to design, view, edit, augment, test, optimize, release and evolve their parts of the product, in unison, through a digital platform. Gone are the days of synchronizing and translating different databases, product structures, file copies and BOMs. To thrive in today’s experience economy, all of this information must be completely united into one holistic digital product definition, with the right apps for the right person to do their job.

Dassault Systèmes recognizes this, and ENOVIA is no longer just about PLM. Now that we have the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, ENOVIA provides elements of the PLM Collaboration Services, as well as many additional roles and apps supporting traditional processes, such as continuous product development and real-time 3D digital mockup, to new business processes, such as program planning and execution, integrated software engineering, semiconductor and system-on-chip development and release, formulated product development, collection planning, financial services portfolio management and so much more.

With such a broad portfolio and set of capabilities, there is no shortage of ways we can help companies shape the futures of their respective industries. There are many ways companies can digitalize their businesses to succeed in the experience economy. Once on the platform, they have access to a wealth of complementary capabilities from other Dassault Systèmes brands, as well new capabilities delivered through our 3DEXPERIENCE Marketplace. Plus having all of this available on the cloud? Now companies of all sizes can access the latest technology and capabilities to satisfy any of their business needs.

This “new” ENOVIA has been around for some time, and we are very excited to explain and technically showcase some of these capabilities at this year’s COE Annual Experience. On behalf of the entire ENOVIA team that will be in San Diego, we hope to see many of you there!
