Makers of the Airbus XWB airliner must adhere to structural, aerodynamic, emergency and aesthetic requirements when making landing gear doors. Daher-Socata was chosen by Airbus to make the landing gear doors, which are the largest moving part on an airplane that must also work in varying weather conditions. Daher-Socata used Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA software to ensure the doors work properly under a number of conditions and speeds. Designers were able to use the technology to detect changes in the doors and develop a more effective door design. A warped door was created to function under constantly changing air pressures as the plane changes altitude and speed.
