"The Importance of Capturing Model Metadata: Model Integration is more than Format"

There are many types of models all with their own purpose.  Consider the automotive, aerospace, and ship building industries that create thousands of Engineering models to define and manufacture their products. But how do the enterprise PLM systems integrate their content and build a digital thread?  To create a model the author makes many important decisions that are not always evident to the model consumer, or the PLM system.  These decisions are masked inside the model, often due to a poverty of model semantics, and how we rely on people to manage the process.  So how do we increase the model’s integration and re-usability?  This presentation explores model metadata, data that describes the model’s data, and how the engineering design context is the foundation for the digital thread.
