I believe Dassault Systemes offers a (free, maybe) CATIA Viewer. Any of you know more about it? Used it? I did check www.3ds.com but no luck.
I just need it to make presentations of my (CATIA V5) design on a laptop in a meeting room.
Thanks in advance!

Alex,
DS offers a 3DXML player that us free, but the Catia Viewer you are referring to is not free, you must pay for it. Do you know how to use the 3DXML files?

No I don’t know how to use 3DXML. How can I learn? I would love to look into it. I don’t mind purchasing the CATIA V5 Viewer if its better then 3DXML. Is it?

If you just need to show files, it will be fine. You must have at least R15 SP1 to save the file.

Make your product active since it doesn't work for parts, sort of (you can, but it is a workaround). Choose save as and change the extension to 3dxml. Download the free viewer from DS and that is it. The files are very small too.

As Craig said, you must have R15SP01 or newer to get the 3DXML extension in the type field, then just go and download the 3DXML viewer from the DS website and your good to go. These 3DXML files you can drag and drop onto most MS documents (Word, PowerPoint), then send these out to potential customers and they can view it if they have the viewer as well. Very similar to SolidWorks e-drawings, but better IMHO.

oh yeah, put your part into an assembly, then save as 3DXML.... I don't know about the work around for a CATPart.

Just downloaded the 3DXML to my desktop. (don’t have my laptop with me today) But if my laptop doesn’t have CATIA V5 installed, then will the 3DXML work on the laptop? If it will need CATIA installed then will it use a CATIA license?

Thanks guys. Got my all my questions answered in time! Got my presentation to do tomorrow, so I better start experimenting with 3DXML now!

Just in case you didn't get the last one answered, it is a free viewer. It works just like an adobe pdf. No need for catia, and no need for a licence, to view it that is.

I have CATIA V5 R16 P2 Service pack one(I think) When I have an assembly and I do “Save As” I see the 3dxml. But once I save the file and try to open with the 3DXML player. I see nothing in the file! The file size is super small… like 2k! What am I doing wrong?

Max,
make sure that the file is a CATProduct, save that CATProduct somewhere, Then save as 3DXML, Did you down load the correct player? That happened to me because I had the wrong player. Make sure you have the latest and greatest as far as player from the 3ds.com website. Let me know how you do.

Guys,

After downloading the setup file 3DMLSPlayerSetup.exe, on executing the same, am getting the following message:

...\3DMLSPlayerSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

Where am I going wrong...?

Thanks,

prabhu.
