RE: Out of the box functionalities
Lasse,
I would like to add:
7) Process Model Integration.
Many companies today have use one tool or another to model there processes. By having a VPLM that can accept an import of data from an external process modeling tool we get the linkage that promotes enterprise process execution.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8) Rules and Gates.
The VPLM should have the ability of enforcing design rules through the use of gates in the PDM. These gates would block promotion to the next maturity level unless designer conforms to the linked rule or a deviation memo is placed on the gate by management.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9) Testing Suite Industry Standard Tools.
The entire suite of DS tools should permit the use of Software Quality Assurance tools like HP Quality Center and Quick Test Pro. The tools suite should permit the manual and automated testing necessary to support code validation by company processes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10) Compliance to International Standards
Compliance at the highest conformance class to international standards like STEP AP203, AP210, AP214, etc. DS should not fear open standards of data exchange. By opening the data for customer ownership DS show that they no longer fear the other competitors and the possibility that there customer may or may not flee to another suite of tools.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I feel this hole list both yours and mine will only come when the COE organization is strong by promoting that it’s members only submit requirements via the COE SER and that DS will give priority to those SER’s as they have cross industry approval. All other requirements submitted via other streams will need to be fully funded as they indicate point solutions for fewer customers benefit. Lastly any point solution SER shall not interfere with the full functionality of the system. And would only be delivered to the individual customer or industry that worked outside the preferred method of enhancing the suite of tools.

For the out of box I have yet to see a company that believe any tools is just right as it sits in the box. V6 fully dressed does support more fully engineering processes and methods than it competition and previous version of its own tool suite. I hope that others will see your words as inspiration to improve the tools and bring light to the engineering processes that DS supports.

(in response to Timothy John Suhr)

I'd like to second your request for compliance to Industry Standards.  I'd like to add ASME Y14 standards
